Namaskaram (Hi!)
My name is KRP (K RamPrabhu), and i am a musician from Bharat or India.
I have been learning Indian Classical Music for the past 6-8 years and it has been quite a journey. Having grown up listening to western music, i now try to bridge the east and the west in my music.
Bharat is a melting pot of cultures and languages. A beautiful Kaleidoscope of classical dance forms, varying styles of music, more than 100 unique languages and a billion people.
The english education my dad put me through ensured that the general fabric of backstreet boys, Linkin Park & John Mayer was always on wherever i went. The shift in the way i sense and create music however happened when i was in my mid twenties, as i went deeper into Yoga and meditation which had graced my life thanks to Sadhguru.
I clearly remember. I was a part of a program where i was in complete silence for 8 days. Somehow, just being in these deep states, a certain stillness arose within me and unknowingly i picked up an appreciation for Indian Classical Music. And ever since, the cowboy within me that head-banged to Linkin park was betrothed to the melody of Bansuri.
Indian classical music and dance are a science that is at least a few thousand years old. They say that when the Indian gods sang and danced - creation happened.
Sound has an impact on the human system. The sages and mystics of India made use of that connect to create and arrange sounds in a way that they have an impact on our system. The ‘sa re ga ma’ of Indian music, similar to ‘do re mi fa’ when arranged in a certain way can explode a person into a fantastic state of consciousness within. Countless times I have felt joy trickling through my very being when I sing a note until my breath runs out.
Who I am, my identity is forgotten like a clay doll in the ocean when I sing or play the flute.
This has been an impetus to shape the music that pours out of me.
Roughly 8 years ago i started volunteering full time at Sadhguru's organization - Isha Foundation. I was inspired by his constant drive to transform individuals around him. I came as an IT guy fired from 2 jobs, warmly accepted by the community here.
We have an OTT platform similar to Netflix with high quality content constantly coming out. Sadhguru also has a ton of digital content that is constantly coming out, I create music for that. Sadhguru speaks on a variety of content - be it on tantric yoga, monks from China, ghosts in Native America, afterlife or devotion. This diversity in his discourses pushed me to create music as diverse as his wisdom.
Life at Isha and Volunteering
My basic nutrition and accommodation is taken care of by the space I live in. I live in Isha foundation which is an ashram., I haven't really taken any extravagant breaks in the past 8 years of my life even after marriage. The idea of living in an ashram is to go beyond the compulsive need to earn ones livelihood and consciously work on inner growth. That is done by volunteering. Which is simply to work on what's necessary without the expectation of a result. A knack I think we all need in the NFT space.
There is beauty in creating without expectation. A mind free of the rat race and a heart full of devotion to the craft. And this is what I have learnt and what I am learning at Isha.
Why NFTs?
Art flowers in a free mind.
I read a quote by Sadhguru once, the gist of which was that a society and civilization are moulded by a handful of geniuses in a generation. These geniuses flowered only because they had the courage to look above their livlihood and do what truly mattered for them. For me, what matters most is music. And the people around me.
I believe NFT's have the power to empower us provided we treat it the right way. Also heck I want to do music full time and bring my tunes to reality, I want to collaborate with some of the best minds and hearts in the world of melody, I want to travel and experience the world, without a concern for a roof over my head. NFTs is the way.
Roadmap
As of now, the plan is to launch a few singles as NFT’s. My immediate drop is going to be Alive on which i am collaborating with the insane Louie.
Later on, i also plan to collab with live artists like Ryan and others and shoot collab videos and mint them as NFT’s. A sample of what i am referring to are collaborations pulled off by Maatibani from across the world. Below is a sample of their work.
They started off very simple with bedroom recordings and collabs. I am already speaking to a couple artists, and hope to pull off a series of such content.
When i am confident, i hope to crowdfund an album similar to the way Daniel Allan and so many other trailblazers have done in Web3.
Thank you
