Cobalt Moon Hatching

Once upon a time, in a bustling tavern filled with townspeople, a young man burst in with a look of alarm on his face.

"Hurry, hurry!" he cried out, "everyone, to the streets! The moon is shining a cobalt blue color and stars are falling from the sky!" Dubbs, the skeptic, scoffed, "What nonsense is this kid spouting?" But Bo, the one-eyed innkeeper, peeking out the door, exclaimed, "I swear by my one eye, he speaks the truth!" The people threw down their mugs and rushed outside. In the sky, a multitude of pink lights converged into one large point. Someone shouted, "Oh no, we're all going to die!" and fainted when one of the comets fell into a nearby field. Expecting to see a great stone in that place, the townspeople were puzzle to find a golden egg, shimmering with a pink glow.

Igor, the oldest resident of the town, told a legend about an abandoned cave, where magical skeletons reside. An ancient artifact which fell to the planet thousands of years ago on the day the Moon shone cobalt blue. This artifact, a chest, shines with the same color as the egg. Back then many people went mad and turned into skeletons because of it. A bloody war broke out between the people and skeletons, until one brave boy took the chest and hid it at the deepest end of the cave. Over time, the skeletons outside the cave crumbled away but some remained hidden within and continue to live under the chest's influence.

Even now the skeletons come out and terrorize the village. However, lately they have become more numerous and stronger. Even though they crumble outside the cave, they manage to kill cows, some villagers, and members of the army sent to protect the area. All this made Igor suspect that this egg is somehow connected to the chest and the skeletons' resurgence, and that it must be dealt with before it's too late.

"Let me go," shouted Latysh, "I'll take the egg and put it in the chest." "You'll die, you fool!" said Jeekah. "I have to stop the bloodshed of innocent people. I am certain Igor is right. I am willing to risk my life to save thousands of others!"

Latysh, a character with thick, brown mustache, grabbed the egg, put it in his pocket and like a lightning bolt, he dashed towards the cave.

As always now, the cave was filled with skeletons, but there was a passage to run through. The hero had a plan in his head: his strength was enough to reach the end. He began to calculate the path, but the skeletons noticed him, and he had to act fast.

Latysh arrived at the end of the cave, jumping over stones, traps, and sliding between skeletons. The end of the cave was illuminated by a pink color (shine) and in the middle of the room stood a chest emitting a pink glow. Next to it lay the skeleton of a small boy.

"Oh, poor little one. You gave up your life to save us," the hero thought, "I will repeat your fate, but I will save everyone."

At that very moment, the ominous cries of the skeletons and the sound of bones started getting closer and closer. Hurrying, Latysh pulled the egg out of his pocket, and opened the chest. Inside, in the middle, there was a recess as if intended for the egg. The hero put the egg in, at first nothing happened, but in a minute it began to move. Mesmerized, Latysh couldn't hear the skeletons, which almost reached him. When he turned around and noticed that one of the skeletons had already swung its sword. The hero closed his eyes and prepared to die... But ... a wave, like a wind, passed through the cave. Latysh opened his eyes and saw the skeletons that were in the room collapsed. A small dragon emitting small pink tongues of flame was sitting in the chest.

Confused as to why he was still alive while the skeletons were dead, Latysh thought to himself "It's strange but I guess I'm just lucky." Not knowing what to do with the dragon, the hero decided to leave the cave; however, the dragon followed in has footsteps. "What is he going to do?" the thought crossed Latysh's mind, as they approached the skeletons outside. The dragon breathed magic fire on them and they crumbled to pieces.

Our hero and little pet stepped out of the dungeon, the whole clearing was bathed in an unusual light and eggs were scattered on the ground. People were inspecting them. Someone spotted the hero and the dragon and shouted, "He did it! He did it!" and the rest of the people joined in the cheer.

This day was recorded in history as the Cobalt Moon Hatching. It was the day when the skeletons were defeated and people started to raise dragons and other magical pets from eggs. The old man with thick gray mustache closed the book. His grandchildren were sweetly asleep, cuddling with their little dragon pet.
