As we head into the final stretch of our initial development prior to the release, here’s an update on what we’ve been doing and what is still being worked on.

We’ve been busy during the Australian summer and as we head into the autumn months, we’ve welcomed two new paid hires. Chris & Andre will be joining the Unity development team for Star Sailors, with Chris taking control of the Unity mechanics and Andre focusing on the blockchain integration. I’ll be continuing to direct things on both the Node & Unity side, however I’ll be mainly focusing on the APIs and webhooks for our integrations for the next little while.
Nathan, our other Unity engineer, has continued working diligently on the trailer scenes and we’ve been in communication with our publishers, Aquatik, about when the trailer will be ready for release. We’re getting closer to being ready for Kickstarter.
We’ve been focused so much over the last few months on building our game that we haven’t really had time to do any substantial marketing or social media work. However, we’ve invested a little in expanding our marketing team and we’ve been hard at work crafting a new brand identity. We don’t want to say too much at the moment, but here’s a sneakpeak:

We’ll be doing an NFT drop over on Opensea with both the concepts and the final branding art; these NFTs will include references to the design choices and inspiration sources.
Our boilerplate repository for Star Sailors, which will eventually contain everything needed to build your own levels on top of our game engine, has just been expanded in scope with our inventory system being added to the open-source components. We have set up an API to talk with Opensea/Ethereum as well as LootLocker for our game’s backend.
The current state of the player controller can be seen in this issue:
https://github.com/Signal-K/starsailors-boilerplate/issues/2
We’ve moved away from the Moralis SDK for Unity simply to keep the size of the boilerplate down, having implemented Chainsafe for login & nft displays, however we still plan to use our Moralis servers once we’re in production.
Stay safe, and we’ll have another update this Friday!
