Scroll marks a milestone as they step into the Beta phase with the introduction of the Scroll Sepolia testnet. Over 100 projects have joined the Scroll ecosystem, successfully finalizing 2.6 million batches to Layer 1 (L1), with 47 million transactions, 9 million wallet addresses, and 4 million contracts deployed.
Their heartfelt thanks to the community, partners, researchers, and stress testers for their invaluable support and feedback. Since the Scroll Alpha Testnet on Goerli, they've worked tirelessly to enhance zkEVM performance and infrastructure robustness. Scroll Sepolia is the result of numerous optimizations, promising an exceptional developer experience.
Key Upgrades for this Release:
zkEVM Advancements: Pushing rollup compatibility boundaries with Ethereum, supporting all EVM opcodes, and incorporating crucial precompiles.
Efficient On-Chain Verification: Implementing layers of proof compression and aggregation, reducing verification costs and final proof size.
Circuit Integrity Assurance: Rigorous internal and external audits ensure the integrity of the zkEVM circuit.
Gas Efficiency Milestone: Achieving up to 50% reduction in gas costs through rollup infrastructure enhancements.
Trustless Bridging Protocol: Introducing a protocol for trustless message relay between L1 and L2, eliminating reliance on a trusted relayer.
Infrastructure Upgrades: Including the introduction of L1MessageTx for secure messaging relay, streamlined circuit capacity checker, and enhanced coordinator functionality.
Reflecting on the journey, these achievements are a result of collective efforts with the Ethereum Foundation's PSE team and the broader research and open-source community.
The Scroll Sepolia testnet will run in parallel with our future Mainnet, serving as the primary testing platform. Scroll Goerli will be sunset upon Mainnet launch.
