I imagine technology like how early humans were with the discovery of fire. Oh, fire. Exciting. And then a whole forest burns down. Today, we get excited about technology like social media, but instead of burning down a forest, we torch democracy or civil society.

Yet, I’m optimistic about technology. Early humans figured out how to make a small fire to cook a meal. We can figure out the right amount of technology necessary to sustain us.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine is an atrocity. Yet, it has been inspiring to see the web3 community rally and donate resources directly to the Ukranian government and human relief organizations.

Groups like reli3f.xyz were created overnight and raised more than a million dollars in less than 30 seconds. All of it transparent on the blockchain. More and more artists and others are continuing to build on this momentum.

For all of this investment into new ways of bringing people together to align resources in times of need, I am inspired and grateful. This gives me hope in humanity, even when some have tested the bounds of our humanity.
