Layer 2 networks, such as Base, are revolutionizing Ethereum's scalability. They enhance transaction throughput and reduce transaction fees, making operations faster and more affordable. By expanding its support for these secondary networks, Nouns Builder has unlocked a tremendous amount of scalability and accessibility for the entire Builder ecosystem.
Inspired by these groundbreaking developments, we decided to channel this newfound efficiency into a unique onchain experiment: DAO Wars.
The stage was set. Boundaries were defined, and it was decided that each participating group would function as its own DAO. We then crafted a foundational set of game rules, established within the constraints of the Nouns Builder protocol, termed the “Rules of Engagement”:
• Factions are established as a DAO on nouns.build.• Auctions span 24 hours without a reserve price.• Founder token allocation percentages are determined by: 100/(total factions + 1).• Veto votes are prohibited.• Faction founder addresses are added to the token allocation percentage under all DAO factions.• Every executed proposal mandates the transfer of at least one faction token.• Proposal threshold is 1% and a 20% quorum is essential for approval.
At the onset of the game, two DAOs were created — one representing @m3tamonk (#FF0000) and another representing @soondooboop (#0000FF).
These DAOs, termed "factions", is setup with a quasi-feudal structure. The majority of the tokens are allocated to the faction founders over time.
The ultimate aim of DAO Wars? Think of it as an onchain “capture the flag” game, as described by @ProfWerder. A winning move might involve transferring an entire faction's treasury to your own through strategic proposals. You could describe this as “debasing” a faction’s token.
Every faction founder or member can adopt any strategy to reach their goals.
With regards to the game design, by introducing an unprecedented high percentage of tokens as founder allocations, we think it introduces some interesting dynamics in dealing with scenarios involving split majorities within the context of DAOs.
As a project, our overall aim is to stretch the capabilities of the Nouns Builder protocol and explore the possibilities of community coordination on a Layer 2 network like Base.
Ready to join the fray? Align with a faction or pioneer your own. The battlefield awaits!
