When I hear the new builders of Web3 and the metaverse get hung up on how to lock their assets to prevent theft and piracy, i jump to nip that thought right in the bud. They would be helping the middlemen industries and monopolies to overreach and overcharge, to prevent the right to fix and to kill ownership under the guise of DRM and protection. Please Don't.
Instead, start from the assumption that propelled the beginning of the internet and Web 1: information wants to be free, and making things available and abundant will enable adoption, invention and agency. You will never stop piracy, so work with it. Provide special access to students. A different license for non-for-profit. Find out who wants to use your just-baked 3D asset without paying what you're charging and why, and think up new Web3 ways to work with them rather than building artificial scarcity from the very beginning into this new future.
Y'all seen how unbridled market forces are playing out for the regular consumer, right?
