Gavin Wood, who had been the CTO of Ethereum, left the project and published a white paper on Polkdot in October 2016. This was followed by the launch of Testnet and its sister network, Kusama Network. In June 2021, a para-chain auction was launched on the Kusama Network, and in November 2021, another para-chain auction was launched on Polkadot.
