In the latest news, the European Commission is urging its member states to agree on regulations for the Market for Cryptocurrency Assets (MiCA), and the Commission also plans to finalize its proposed regulatory sandbox for financial products based on distributed ledger technology (DLT) by the end of the year. MiCA is introducing a customized regime for previously unregulated crypto assets, including stablecoins, and the proposed legislation in the regulatory framework will make it easier for cryptocurrency firms to expand in the EU through a licensing regime that allows firms regulated in one member state to operate in other countries," said Mairead McGuinness, the European Commission's financial services commissioner. Regarding distributed ledger technology, Mairead McGuinness added: "The DLT pilot regime will create a secure space for market participants to experiment with blockchain technology for issuing, trading and settling securities, and starting next year, market participants will be able to test large-scale use of DLT in asset classes, such as equity-to-bonds".
