A gust of wind rolls some hay across a house in the middle of nowhere. There are broken windows, doors creaking and cobwebs everywhere. You see broken furniture and hear weird sounds. Despite all of the red flags, you’re curious…. so you enter.

You slowly open the door and take a peek inside.

You see something in the distance. What is it? A ghoul? A horde of spiders? A dead body? No, it’s a ghost… or maybe a friendly spirit. But this is definitely not Casper, the friendly ghost. There’s something peculiar about this mysterious spirit. You hear a whisper inside your head…. “Mitama.”

Mitama is a friendly, yet naughty spirit with a tough exterior who secretly has a soft spot for humans. It claims to hate humans while admiring them from afar. It’s the same feeling you get when that song you are embarrassed by comes on the radio and you secretly love it despite your denial. Like saying, “I don’t like pineapple pizza” until one slice changes your life.

It’s that “I hate that I love you” feeling. As you are trying to comprehend what is happening and what you are seeing… something happens.

Your entrance seemed to have disturbed this entity… Mitama is waking up from a deep sleep. “Humans! You’ve ruined another almost perfect 1000-year hibernation!” it shouts.

Get to Know Mitama

Mitama is not just a magical life form who holds a grudge against humans.

In Japanese, the word “mitama” means a spirit…but this one has some attitude. Picture Dennis the Menace in spirit form and then throw it into the Metaverse. Mitama’s vice? Pranking people and making fun of humans…despite being taught to respect and value them.

Pranks are great. But a spirit can’t think about fun and games all the time, a spirit should do more. Inside each Mitama are hidden traits that make each one unique and tell the story of their past encounters with greedy humans.

So what traits can you expect from Mitama? A ton! Think cute (obviously), immature, hot-headed, hyperactive, loud, full of energy, goofy, and positive all year round. Oh yeah, and don’t forget their prankster nature. Who wouldn’t want to have a bag full of traits like that? Not to mention that they are shiny, fluorescent , you know things that humans are attracted to.

The traits that make up each Mitama are what keep these little buggers attached to humans. It’s what makes them want to do good. So, while each Mitama might have unique traits, they are all working together for the common good.
