I have gazed within and now must forsake
To forge the great world I want to make
I have sought truth and I have sought facts
**And it is with nothing to show that I must ask: **
Why have I endeavored to be on this path
To try in earnest to solve this incalculable math?
Was it to help me or was it to help you?
**Why do I do the things that I do? **
My goal was simple and shared by many
It was not to acquire just one more penny
But rather to live a life fulfilled
**Replete with the usual trips, falls, and spills **
I have come to know much in this world
These thoughts and ideas, around my head they twirled
It was with these abstractions I found much confusion
**My mind, body, and soul sustaining many contusions **
My knowledge has made me a rich man, no doubt
Yet I ask myself daily, "What is it all about?"
This life I've been given and didn't ask for
**Vulnerable and damaged, my spirit has washed ashore **
Perhaps on the beaches of ignorance I will find
More purpose and pleasure in this fruitless grind
Leave behind what I know, my suffering has urged
**These values, these goals, my conscience must purge **
To wipe the slate clean and begin anew
I now know it would mean nothing without you
Without love, without passion, I have nothing to show
The things I wish I did not know
