So much to do. So many things to keep in mind. All that you have to remember. To get it done. To be good enough.
At work.
As a parent. A friend. A partner.
A person with your own wants and needs and preferences.
Rushing to get it all done.
Such is life.
It’s driven by want. The wants you created for yourself (why did you do that?). But also the wants of others. Their wants created frames of expectations. That you eagerly try to fit into.
Such is life.
Instead of trying to be the best and filling your head with things to remember and stress about, there’s flow.
You can be present. Or, at least you can try. Aware of what life is offering and asking of you. In this moment. In any given moment. In every moment.
And there’s juggling. Being in all the roles of life. Allowing the flow of juggling them shift one into focus, then another. Being all the different parts of yourself. Embracing it all.
You can’t juggle if you are in a rush because you want the next thing. You have to juggle what’s there. Here. And now.
Instead, you take the tunnel. The fastest way to the destination. You move fast, but you don’t experience shit. Why bother, you can experience everything at the destination. Or can you?
Why am I writing this to you? Because I want you to know that there are surface roads. Small, winding paths. Intersections.
People.
Trees and flowers.
Touch grass, for fuck's sake.
One day it’s raining. The next it’s cloudy. Now there’s sun. Feel the rays of it. The warmth. All these things, life is presenting it. Offering it. To you. A gift.
You can explore and experience all of what life is presenting and asking. With the people. The people around you. The people that matter.
But how would you know, if you are down there in the tunnels?
Sure, getting to where you are going might take longer. You might even end up at a different destination.
Taking the tunnel would be faster. Faster but alone. Faster but no color.
No winding paths to explore, just a straight line.
Doesn’t matter, you say? It is just for transport, not for living.
Is life at the other end of the tunnel? Is that where you slow down? Where happiness, joy and presence suddenly wash over you?
Or, may it be that the only thing at the end of the tunnel is… another tunnel?
Because now you want more. Or the next thing. Whatever that is?
Fuck that. Fuck that 10 times. Maybe a hundred.
Wake up.
Get up. Topside.
What’s the weather like today?
Can you feel the sun?
Life isn’t at the destination you are chasing. There’s no happy castle at the end of that tunnel.
Life is the journey. And the journey is a million moments just like this one.
Your life unfolds, whether you are present for it or not.
The ultimate success is presence in every single moment. And gratitude for it.
