So you managed to stake your way to a Tesla in your driveway but did you know that there are over 10,000 unique parts in a Tesla Model 3 and any one of them can slow down the automaker’s important production. 

Let’s take a closer look at what makes the automotive industry tick and how Morpheus is a well oiled machine to keep things running smoothly. There are three notable issues facing the industry: the transition to electric vehicles, inflation and the fact that a large portion of employees in the industry are heading towards retirement.

The global pandemic sent shockwaves through the automotive industry leading to massive production losses with the exclusion of 11.3 million vehicles from production in 2021. However, by mid-2023, the worst of the semiconductor shortage appears to have subsided.

While production and sales are improving, increased demand for semiconductors in EVs and autonomous vehicles, and geopolitical trade risks are causing new havoc to supplies. The industry's demand for semiconductors is expected to escalate, with the value of chips per vehicle forecasted to rise from $500 in 2020 to $1,400 by 2028. 

The rapid shift towards EVs, expected to comprise 35% of North American production by 2030, has further increased demand for batteries and semiconductors. What does this do? It puts even more pressure on the supply chains. 

Another challenge is lack of staff with relevant skills to facilitate demand for the newer car models. In a recent survey with over 600 industry experts more than half 56% identified skills shortages as a major challenge.  

Car manufacturing will continue to face threats and must use advanced technologies to navigate the complexities of newer production processes and geopolitical tensions to stay ahead of the game. 

As we spoke about, the automotive industry has recently faced pretty significant production challenges, cutting millions of vehicles.
