the following haikus were written at various points during quarantine lockdown. they reflect personal and political expressions of what was happening at the time.

i miss my barber

my girl says she’d cut my hair

but black men don’t cheat

--

please baby, no more

instagram lives, please baby d

at least monetize

--

i run with ahmaud.

they kill black boys like it’s just

another weekend

--

ever get anxious

before therapy, so much

so you cancel it

--

lady liberty

masked up, the crown aint worth much

If black folks can’t breathe

--

new apartment smell:

wonder, possibility

racks spent on candles

--

yes - the air is clear

as amazon ships through death

the boxes pile high

--

one hundred thousand

dead bodies. moms. pops. bro. sis.

but the stock market!

--

my poor kitchen pleads

for a rest: dishes, snacks, drinks

my fridge should pay rent
