One of our first clients told us they loved the name because it made them think of "nachos". Who doesn't love nachos?
Picking a name can be a challenge, especially in a global environment where context is easily lost! There are varying ways to pronounce Nearchos, but the one we utilize is: "nare-haus". Many often say "near-chose", as that seems to be the most phonetic approach. There's no wrong way, but over time we hope to see a familiarity grow as we make this a household name in the web3 builder community.
Why Nearchos? The name comes from a Greek naval officer who served during Alexander the Great's empire building era. He is most famously known for building and leading the 2000+ ships that made up Alexander's unprecedented fleet down the Indian rivers to complete his career conquest and turn his march across the map into an empire instead of a resounding failure.
This is the energy that we want to bring to our work in this ecosystem: Not only do we see a vision of what could be, but we are here to do the work necessary to make it become a reality.
What is our vision? The what that defines Nearchos' goals:
We want to live in a world that empowers the individual to contribute to the collective whole while retaining the value of that contribution.
Which leads us to our mission, or the how:
To demonstrate through example how the 6 Pillars of Technological Innovation can serve the needs of the users through community research, use case refinement, and business development of value-aligned public goods.
Nearchos operates as a singular entity, but it is made up of multiple contributors! Founding members are:
Super-Organizer
Master of Data
Operational Leader
Thinker & Dreamer
Wordsmith
Network Weaver
We are collaborators who recognized early on that we work better together. Each of us have unique skills and passions that lend well to accomplishing our collective goals. We are drawn together by our shared values, and are bound together by our unwavering commitment to our mission: to go further together.
If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together!

Operating as Nearchos, we are dogfooding the coordination process that we feel is essential for humanity to move into the next technological era of collaborative social development.
There is a more in depth dive into our values described in Trig Time titled The Way of the Punk. To summarize most concisely, we believe in these founding principles:
Decentralization is necessary to secure the future of a free society
Privacy by default is essential to maintain a free society
Culture is what drives society forward, collectively
The beliefs of the individual are the bedrock of culture within society
These 4 principles are not new. They have been around in some form for much of human history, and explicitly defined in their modern technical context since the 80's. They are a guiding light, but they are not a vehicle with which we can navigate the path forward. We have used this foundation to define our core values that drive everything we do:
Human-Centric: People are at the center of everything we do.
Radically Transparent: We prioritize honesty and accountability.
Data-Driven: Our strategies are rooted in quantifiable insights.
Collaborative: We break silos and encourage shared growth.
Action-Oriented: We focus on delivering tangible, meaningful results.
Much like Alexander the Great and his visionary admiral, Nearchos, saw the need for a fleet of ships to finish the mission they set out on, we see the need for specific technical solutions to be the vehicle with which the individual can navigate this ecosystem. That is why we have developed these 6 foundational pillars of technology that, when interconnected, provide a means with which to actually achieve the future of a free, open, and self-regulating society.
Self-Sovereign Identities – Empowering individuals to control their own data and identity.
Secure Communication – Utilizing communication frameworks that are both open/accessible and secure.
Social Engagement – Embracing the online & async nature of the modern global society.
Collaborative Tools – Focusing on tools that foster collaborative work, breaking individuals out of their silos.
Knowledge Management – Promoting autonomous access to insights and expertise instead of creating walled gardens and black boxes.
Decentralized Consensus – Encouraging reputation driven governance and redefining trust-based decision making.
Each of these pillars is interconnected with the others. None can stand alone, and together they make up the foundation upon which a truly decentralized society can be built. Any of them on their own, however, are at risk of capture and corruption. This is the wholistic approach that builds robust systems of organization that will outlive their creators.
We have spent the last several years working on various projects throughout the web3 ecosystem. One of the main insights that has infiltrated every aspect of the work we've done has revealed a shared oversight that unites every project in web3:
People are the Center of Web3, not Protocols!
We are embarking on a journey to demonstrate to the entire ecosystem why we believe that people are the center of web3, not protocols! In a tech-heavy industry it is easy to get distracted by the tech and forget that it solely exists to serve people. We will never see mass adoption, however, if the tech and tools are not built to serve the actual needs of the people intended to use them.
To accomplish this goal, we are launching our first major initiative:
This project will serve as the launchpad for what we hope is a revolution in web3 development. We are setting out on this exploratory journey to gain insights from communities ranging from top web3 projects, to classic web2 communities, to old school offline communities.
In order to build solutions for the masses, we need to gain insight from the masses!
Staying true to our values and the 6 pillars we believe are necessary to achieve the future we all are working to build, we will be experimenting with decentralized tools to accomplish our tasks along the way. The goal is to build open, transparent, and self-sovereign data that not only informs developers everywhere of actual user needs, but also rewards users for sharing their high-value data for this emergent ecosystem.
As we progress through this journey, this data will be publicly available for everyone to benefit from. Community Mood Maps will serve as a constantly updating resource to help builders keep their finger on the pulse of the communities they are building for. As the ecosystem grows and evolves, so will the Community Mood Map!
If this all sounds interesting to you and you'd like to get involved, we'd love to have you join our journey!
