Avail Testnet (Clash of Nodes)

Hi everyone, I hope everything is fine. This week, you must have heard of $TIA airdrop of Celestia project. On Celestia, people who installed node on Celestia got thousands of dollars. Today, we are going to try our luck on Avail project.

They are going to select 200 nodes to enter incentivized testnet. That’s why we are going to try our luck. But don’t worry, I have got Aptos airdrop just by trying my luck on creating node :)

We need a cloud server which you can get on Google Cloud. You can have $300 worth of free credit if you haven’t used it before.

https://cloud.google.com/

Create Instance with minimum requirements:

  • 2 CPU

  • 4GB RAM

  • 20–40GB DISK

  • Ubuntu 20.04++

If you have server on your hand, we can start.

Firstly, we need to fill in this form: https://forms.gle/xKms4yERLcuucpVx5

Moniker name is your nickname which you will use on your node name.

You can read the announcements of Avail here: https://twitter.com/AvailProject/status/1715008696835600451?s=20

Connect to your cloud server and enter these codes one by one:

sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y
sudo apt install make clang pkg-config libssl-dev build-essential git screen protobuf-compiler -y
curl https://sh.rustup.rs -sSf | sh
source $HOME/.cargo/env
rustup update nightly
rustup target add wasm32-unknown-unknown --toolchain nightly
git clone https://github.com/availproject/avail.git
screen -S avail
cd avail
cargo build --release -p data-avail
mkdir -p output
git checkout v1.7.2
cargo run --locked --release -- --chain kate -d ./output
CTRL-C

sudo touch /etc/systemd/system/availd.service
sudo nano /etc/systemd/system/availd.service

Enter your validator name on “monikername”. Exit with CTRL X-Y Enter after pasting the code. (Copy all of them together)

[Unit]
Description=Avail Validator
After=network.target
StartLimitIntervalSec=0
[Service]
User=root
ExecStart= /root/avail/target/release/data-avail --base-path `pwd`/data --chain kate --name "monikername"
Restart=always
RestartSec=120
[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target

Copy them one by one again.

sudo systemctl enable availd.service

sudo systemctl start availd.service

sudo systemctl status availd.service

Exit with CTRL-C.

journalctl -f -u availd
To stop system:

sudo systemctl stop availd.service
