Dome | Genesis

At Dome we´re building the one link solution for web3 users to share & display their curated digital identity and give access to their multiple profiles/platforms.

Mission: We seek to empower web3 users with the possibility to curate and display digital & on-chain activity in a way that:

  • Gives access to all fronts of digital identities

  • Validates proven on-chain experiences.

  • Enhances visibility of projects supported / contributed to.

  • Enhances privacy and control of each user´s wallet information (Coming soon)

Thesis: While all on-chain activity is openly available in the blockchain (and accessible through tools such as Etherscan), we are building a space where to curate the most relevant of our activity and manage the privacy of our wallet addresses.

A user´s onchain footprint has the potential to act as a system of credentials: Community affiliations, experience with De-fi protocols, and governance involvement within projects are some of many on-chain interactions that offer valuable social capital both for social and professional ends. In order to leverage these, it is essential to enable users to differentiate relevant experience from experimentation, and to be able to display key activity without compromising all of their wallet’s privacy.

These credentials, when combined with the user´s multi-platform profiles (Linkedin, Instagram, etc), provide a holistic picture of a digital identity. Considering Twitter as today´s web3 public square, we are building a composable profile that will initially fit as a link in any user´s Twitter bio - seeking to add validated credentials to current social dynamics.

At a time when financial incentives within the ecosystem are being challenged, we believe in contributing to its social layer towards the consolidation of fundamental value.

Launch & next steps: Building incrementally and following our mission, on mid-July 2022 we are launching Dome´s beta version. Specifically, a space where you can create a profile to:

  • Display your favorite NFTs.

  • Highlight the DAOs you are involved in.

  • Prove your credentials with your most important POAPs.

  • Give access to all your relevant profiles/platforms.

Looking forward, short-term mapped iterations include multi-wallet privacy management and the consideration of many other forms of relevant credentials.

Expanded thesis

State of the world: The fast-paced development of web3 (Internet as we know it + blockchain enabled digital ownership) has enabled a new layer for digital identities. In addition to traditional identity building platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin, etc), web3 users count with a unique identifier (Wallet address) that can be used to interact with any kind of software. These identifiers map part of our activity on the blockchain and open up the possibility to take on-chain possessions and credentials across platforms, enabling traceability and composability throughout our interactions.

With the blockchain acting as an open ledger, the part of the user's activity that is registered on-chain creates an identity by itself. For each wallet address, on-chain activity & possessions signalize its experiences, contributions and interests - making up an implicit history available to anyone looking for it - and one that we take with us to every platform we connect with.

Users & adresses: While these identities are nurtured organically for every wallet address as it's used, it remains unclear how users will relate towards them. When a wallet is associated with a user's identity, the wallet is considered to be doxed and its whole history can be associated with him/her.

Currently, in an attempt for privacy, it is common practice to hold a certain amount of wallets - avoiding clear interactions between them - and choosing which of them to doxe in an attempt to build social capital. For these, there is no curation other than the mere acts of interacting on-chain or associating it with a user.

Our mission at Dome is to empower users in order for them to make the most out of the social capital implicit in their on-chain history and possessions (either for doxed or undoxed wallets): Curate their on-chain credentials, give visibility to the projects and communities that represent them the most and provide accessibility to all the platforms that the user considers identitarily relevant.

What “user” means? Real, pseudonymous or anonym: When talking about associating a wallet to a user, the definition of “user” needs to be explored.

Taking on Balaji´s acclaimed approach to digital identities*, three key concepts arise:

  • Real identities: Those users with a (fiat) name that represent a real life identity.

  • Pseudonyms: Identities built through continuous activity in platforms such as Twitter or Reddit, un-tied to a physical / IRL person or entity / org.

  • Anonyms: Users of platforms such as 4chan, whose interactions don’t have the traceability to build an identity over time.

Wallet addresses are anonymous as they are created. Any association with a real or pseudonyms identity conceptually doxes them and offers the potential to provide social capital for these.

While proven credentials are valuable for both real or pseudonymous users, and provide visibility that enhances the ecosystem´s accessibility, they offer the latter the possibility to consolidate the nature of their identity. Balaji theorizes* that a pseudonymous economy could exist, leveraged on credentials that prove a user's track record, contributions and interests.
