One thing I’ve learned while building Packy—travel is chaotic. The industry thrives on spontaneity, but planning a trip? That’s still a frustrating, time-consuming mess. Flights, hotels, experiences, local recommendations—everything is scattered. That’s where AI comes in.
But making AI work for travel isn’t as easy as plugging in ChatGPT and calling it a day. We’ve faced hurdles, taken wrong turns, and had breakthrough moments.
Travel data is an absolute nightmare. Unlike e-commerce or fintech, where structured databases exist, travel information is fragmented. Hotels have different prices on different platforms. Flight rates fluctuate by the second. Personalized recommendations? They barely exist.
When we started building Packy’s AI, the first challenge was obvious: how do we bring all this chaos into one coherent system? We experimented with scraping, API integrations, and even community-driven inputs. The goal was simple—make travel feel intuitive, not overwhelming.
One of the biggest mistakes startups make is slapping AI onto a product just to say it’s AI-powered. We didn’t want to build a chatbot that regurgitates Google search results. Instead, we focused on making AI actually useful:
Personalized Itineraries – Not generic "Top 10 Places to Visit" lists, but tailored suggestions based on preferences, past trips, and even real-time weather conditions.
Real-Time Adjustments – What if your flight gets delayed? What if the place you planned to visit is unexpectedly closed? AI should adapt on the fly.
Seamless Booking – No more bouncing between ten different platforms. AI should help book everything in one place, transparently.
One of the biggest breakthroughs was realizing AI shouldn’t replace human decision-making—it should enhance it. AI can crunch thousands of options in seconds, but the final call? That should still be yours.
So, instead of forcing fully automated itineraries, we built Packy to suggest, adapt, and refine based on what you actually want. AI as an assistant, not a dictator.
Not everyone was sold on the AI pivot. Some early users were skeptical: "Is AI really better than my personal research?" That’s when we knew we had to prove it. We ran beta tests, gathered feedback, and fine-tuned the model to make results feel human, not robotic.
The moment users started saying "This feels like a local friend planned my trip for me"—that’s when we knew we were on the right track.
We’re pushing AI to do even more—predictive pricing insights, real-time trip coordination, and even community-driven recommendations powered by blockchain. The goal? To make travel planning so good that you actually spend less time planning and more time experiencing.
If you believe travel should be effortless, we’d love for you to be part of this journey.
