This new Farcaster experiment called Frames is really the type of thing that pumps me up for web3. It’s precisely the kind of thing that we should be doing in the space, in the sense that it’s genuinely an in-your-face testament of what “composability” should mean in web3. And it’s especially delicious because it’s the kind of thing that web2 social media companies would never be able to do. 😋
In fact, on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter, your reach gets hurt if you include any link in a post you share. Twitter recently even redesigned the link previews so that they would look like images, and therefore, non-clickable, and therefore, users would jump off the Twitter app less.
This is the main issue here: the main thing Web2 Social platforms care about is time spent per active user on app. Because the more time users spend on app, the more ads they see and the more revenue these social media platforms will get.
Farcaster Frames are the opposite of all that. Since Farcaster gets money directly from users since users need to pay to create an account, post, connect to other apps, etc., Farcaster actually needs to incentivize users to just share more on the app. So their motivation is to make the format of the things people can share on Farcaster, more and more engaging. Therefore… Frames! 🖼️
Frames are such a powerful primitive, almost as powerful as the original hyperlink. Actually…
It’s no wonder then, that people have already created a Doom clone in the first 36 hours after the release of Frames. =)
And of course, you can check out all other Frames in their Farcaster channel.
🚀 LFG Farcaster! 🔥
