Permaculture & Ecosystem

Finally, I started my personal study project.

It is funny, sometimes things just come to you. Two friends, Danny and Joe, from completely different circles, living on two different continents, pitched permaculture to me.

Since I want to study coordination in natural and digital/man-made ecosystems, permaculture seems a very good starting point.

Today, I dive into Permaculture with the help of Wikipedia, a truly amazing public good. Permaculture describes the practice of learning of well functioning natural ecosystems and reconstructing them for own use. I am thrilled to learn more about ecology, system thinking and design.

Next to studying the theory, I am thinking if I should go back to learn python to be able to model and simulate ecosystems using cadCAD. However, so far programming was not really an exercise I enjoyed. Or should I rather focus on graphic design, a subject I really enjoy doing?

Ray Dalio gives three pathways for this question:

  1. Accept weaknesses (e.g. programming) and work on them to turn them into strengths (training)

  2. Accept and work around them (find another solution for system modelling like Machinations)

  3. Change what you’re going after

  4. Collaborate with people who are good at what you’re not
