Alternative clients to the Farcaster App are nothing new. We’ve had great ones for a while: HeroCast, Supercast (RIP), Recaster, and Cura, to name a few. But the launch of The Base App (TBA)by Coinbase changes the game. It brings a totally different monetization model, its own reward structure, and a waitlist of 700,000 people who could be flooding the network in the next few months. If you’re serious about Farcaster as a protocol, it’s worth digging into all of the major players.
Recaster shines when you need to schedule posts. If your audience is global, try casting across time zones to see when engagement peaks. If you are struggling with engagement, maybe you aren’t casting when most of your audience is online (the home feed in the Farcaster App has also been very “fresh” lately so timing may play a key role). Their “stats” page for users is full of great info (spam labels, Neynar scores, OpenRank stats; all on one screen). Lists are also extremely powerful and a great way to tame your experience and see more content catered to your own personal interests. They also have a "Trending" Feed which the Farcaster App recently sunset. Standalone app via iOS or Mini App inside clients.
Cura is great for channels. It lets you explore what’s hot, new, and trending per channel. It’s more like Reddit than a reverse-chronological feed for your favorite channels. Personally, I don’t love reverse chronological feeds in channels; they don’t really surface what the community’s excited about. Cura fixes that. If you are serious about channels and communities, it’s the best way to slice and dice channel content surfaced by members of the channel instead of just an algorithm. Cura is also experimenting with their own home "feed" based on the channels you follow.
They have a stand alone app on the iOS store, a web app, and a mini app available inside the Farcaster App/TBA/Recaster.
Then there’s The Base App (TBA). It’s all about creator and content monetization. It has its own rewards algorithm, leaderboard, and a single global feed. No one fully understands how their algo works yet, but if you want to see the Farcaster protocol in a different light, their feed is very different from the home feed in the main Farcaster client.
You can “coin” each post individually and hope it goes viral from TBA or use a new mini-app called Zorro by @derek to tie your creator coin to a post without creating a new coin every time.
One downside of The Base App is Mini Apps compatibility…not all of them work perfectly and some wallet-based apps may require different wallets for different apps. If you find one that’s misbehaving, reach out to the developer. You may be able to give them some insight and share bugs they are unaware of at the moment.
• If you’re casting into channels, use Cura or the Farcaster App.
• If you’re not casting to channel, post directly from The Base App (TBA) to be eligible for their Base Creator Rewards.
• If you’ve got friends across the globe, try Recaster and change your casting times with scheduling.
• Farcaster pulls in casts from all clients, so you’re still eligible for Farcaster Leaderboard Rewards if you cast from indie clients like Cura and Recaster, but NOT TBA. Base’s rewards are separate; to earn those, you need to post from The Base App (TBA).

I need to find time to collect on @fxhash I need to find time to pair my @zora to my @paragraph What other onchain activity I’m missing out?
I did the paragraphs pairing and it was super easy. I just pasted the contract address for my token. So simple https://paragraph.com/@pichi/choosing-the-right-farcaster-client

Don't know how she does it, but @pichi always breaks down complicated stuff in a way we can all understand. This is a piece on @paragraph explaining the major differences between the main FC clients. Recaster, Cura, TBA - what they are, when to use them, and how to get the most out of each. Short, clear, and actually useful. Last week I wrote about the major Farcaster client's in the market and their strengths. I’m also experimenting with pairing this @paragraph article with my own $PICHI creator coin instead of each article becoming a separate coin! TL;DR: • If you’re casting into channels, use Cura or the Farcaster App. • If you’re not casting to channel, post directly from The Base App (TBA) to be eligible for their Base Creator Rewards. • If you’ve got friends across the globe, try Recaster and change your casting times with scheduling. Note: Farcaster pulls in casts from all clients, so you’re still eligible for Farcaster Leaderboard Rewards if you cast from indie clients like Cura and Recaster, but NOT TBA. Base’s rewards are separate; to earn those, you need to post from The Base App (TBA). https://paragraph.com/@pichi/choosing-the-right-farcaster-client?referrer=0x19D8da2674E8A025154153297ea3AB918DebF96d
All the links you need to explore each client are in the paragraph article! Your support is valued and appreciated!
I read everything in the email I Was sent. Is that supposed to happen?
I sent it to all subscribers when I posted it.
Thanks for the great info especially for the channel users

Thanks for writing this! I've been using Cura to moderate my channels but I didn't realize you can cast directly from the Cura web app. I didn't see a way to do that, but I'll check again when I'm not so tired... lol. Seems like engagement on my casts has dropped like a rock in recent weeks, and even more so this week. Haven't changed my casting patterns much at all. Happens across the board, with any kind of cast, anytime of day, night, or weekend. Heard the same reports from several others. The number of followers doesn't seem to matter much because only a tiny handful even see your casts. Wouldn't be a big deal except for the fact that I used to get like 3x the engagement a few months ago, so that was my benchmark. I wonder if this is just algo changes, or if the move to TBA has something to do with the drop in engagement (because the feed is different, so attention is further split)?
It’s not your imagination https://farcaster.quotient.social/user/danicaswanson But, it’s best to look at others with similar following sizes who post often and see how they are doing. When I benchmark myself that way, I’m not doing too bad. You can search for anyone. This is how I wrote my “the algo’s not that into you piece” by studying about 25 accounts over serval weeks.
Oh, that's a good idea! I actually found the Quotient app through your thread on "the algo's not that into you" (great title, BTW) and added it. But I haven't checked it in awhile, and it didn't occur to me to check for others with similar followings to look for patterns in the form of drops in engagement. I'll try that. Thanks.
So insightful, as always. I'm not on TBA yet, but will have to start using Recaster more. I didn't even know we can schedule casts there, I thought this died with Super. Thank you! 🙏 2000 $BETR
Thankyouuu Pichi for letting me know to get rewards...i din't knew that!
I am so glad this was helpful! Thanks for the feedback! 5000 $betr
Great article. Have you tried @fireflyapp? It feels good, the feed shows you the posts in real time, there is also an option to translate in the post itself, which is great for me
Last time I used it it felt like it was more about cross posting and not really about being able to use channels or mini apps.
True
In Farcaster I feel that I miss many publications, only the posts of the people I interact with appear in the feed. It's hard for me to see other topics, other accounts. In addition, for a few weeks now I don't have the option to see the trending feed.
We are improving the experience on mini apps. We know that's the key part for farcaster user.
What do you think is more profitable from the 4 apps above? @pichi
I think everyone should do the TBA experiment for a week if they can!
For TBA, will he still be counted in the reward /farcaster
You are right. If everything is an independent coin, it is an issue but are def. building infra where your token can be connected to everything you are publishing esp. if it is video. These are not farcaster videos (coz they are public and can't be tokenized) but are videos that are uploaded to your own server / Media Node and hence can be truly token-gated with your own coin
