Shocking when someone, anyone, dies the way Rob Reiner and his wife died. Murdered in their own home. More shocking when it is someone famous, like Reiner.
People Magazine is reporting it was his own son who used a knife. Sad and gruesome. As the news drips out, it gets worse.
Politically, Rob Reiner would have hated my guts. There were many things he said, tweeted, and wished for people with beliefs different than his. Trump caused him to become paranoid. It became sad to watch.
My guess is he would have no problem sending me to a re-education camp or something like that. Our country is as divided today as it was in the 1850s over the question of slavery. Now we are questioning the government's role in society.
Reiner was a remarkable talent. Great comedic and dramatic actor. He was on a game-changing sitcom when I was young. "All In The Family". For its time, it was controversial. I wonder if it could be made today, given a lot of the themes it explored.
His movies were game changers. "The Sure Thing" is underrated. It is a remarkable movie. Our kids love it, and we quote lines out of it when we are together. "When Harry Met Sally", "A Few Good Men", and his first, "The Princess Bride" are remarkable in different ways. The only commonality is the director.
I respected Reiner's talent which was great. His father was an amazing talent. Even though Reiner grew up in a Hollywood family, he earned everything he recieved. He left an amazing legacy, and I am sure he had a few more in him. It's terribly sad he won't get the chance. I am very sorry for his remaining family and friends. We will pray for them tonight. It's the first night of Chanukkah, and light is supposed to be spread. Sadly, Reiner had his light snuffed out.
As Republicans, we should not revel in the death of our political opponents. We need to have some empathy for them, even though we vehemently disagree. Empathy leads to understanding. Understanding of their perspective. Once you know that, you can have an honest discussion and maybe try to persuade them to your side.
There is no compromising with communists or socialists. Reiner wasn't that. He was tribal, and there is a difference.
