The sun's season has arrived. What are you creating this summer? What will Morayo create?
Morayo is a graduate of business administration and a small business owner. She wants to scale up her business and gain international clients but worries, "How do I handle the payment processes?" While surfing the internet one day, she comes across a post from an old friend talking about Onchain Summer. Intrigued, she chats up her friend Amos.
Amos is eager to bring his friend Onchain, so he invites Morayo to an event sponsored by Pronouns during Onchain Summer, Morayo finds a solution. Why not create something that can help her and other business owners scale up internationally?
She teams up with a developer and participates in the payment and commerce track with Shopify during the buildathon, building a unique online storefront where one can easily discover her clothing brand online and purchase choice products with crypto or card; she can easily convert it to local currency, a breakthrough.
The event is an eye-opener for Morayo, introducing her to the dynamic environment of cryptocurrency, NFTs (non-fungible tokens), and the creator economy. She learns the basic concepts of what it means to be onchain and gets a chance to network, meeting others (both newbies and OGs) in the web3 space.
Morayo discovers that with the Web3 community, she can expand her market reach and connect with people from diverse walks of life. She seizes the opportunity to be a builder while taking her business to the next level.
The sun is yet to set. As summer rages on, Morayo is glad to be Onchain, moving through the diverse landscape of Web3. Thanks to Coinbase, Base, and onchain Summer, she won't be going through this journey alone. The summer never ends.

Here, you can create whatever you want for your audience, and they are right there, ready to support you. You can be in your most creative element, with backing from your believers—the community. The age where creators were merely entertainers is over. Today, you can make money from your art, music, poems, or whatever form it takes, while still having fun at it. If you're unfamiliar with Web3, you may be like me. I used to think that my love for creating memes was a distraction and just for fun. Is that true?
Based Memes is a project under the Creator with Zora track of Onchain Summer. Their focus is to create a world where sticker creators can earn along with meme owners using the ERC-721 contracts. There is no better time to be a memer. That's the great thing about Web 3. It's a wonderland. Everyone has a place here.
Have you heard of it? NFTs are dead. The world of decentralisation has made it easy for anyone to spread their art directly to all art lovers without needing to go through a record label, an art museum, or a gallery. With NFTs, the world is a global gallery where I can access whatever art I want (at a price). So, are NFTs really a dying flame?
Everything is art. That's why big brands like Lamborghini, Adidas, Nike, Dolce & Gabbana, and Coca-Cola are riding hot waves in the NFT industry. What could be the attraction? These brands understand the power of community that NFTs and the decentralised internet provide. According to the Self-Determination Theory, humans have three innate psychological needs:
Autonomy: the need to feel in control of one's actions and decisions.
Competence: the need to feel effective and capable.
Relatedness: the need to feel connected and belong to others.
When these needs are met, individuals experience greater well-being and motivation. They are more likely to be satisfied with and loyal to a brand.
So why not? Engage the power of community that is the core of Web3 while making money, building trust, and satisfying your community—all while doing what you love most: creating.
Creators have fewer worries about IP or art theft as the blockchain is like an immutable magic ledger where we can see records of transactions and verify ownership and authenticity. This is the update our systems need.
Now, what if every country in the world could have voting systems based on blockchain technology? A time when I could vote from the comfort of my home and be able to check in fifty years who I and my friends voted for. Aside from accountability on the part of leaders, it builds a spirit of community. Every citizen knows they have a say and are contributing directly to the growth of the government and the economy. That is something Pronouns was keen on while hosting their Unplugged with NOUNS event. They aimed to bring the gospel of Web3 and NFTs to people in their region. Guess what? They could never have achieved that while leaving out CommYOUnity because decentralisation simply cannot be separated from the two.
It's no surprise that the unplugged track was sponsored by NOUNS. Why? NOUNS DAO brings together people who love digital arts and public goods and want to make decisions together. They share ownership of special digital arts called Nouns. A Nouns NFT is auctioned daily, and the funds are stored in their treasury to fund valid proposals from the DAO members. Every member can create a proposal that makes them feel like they are part of this big thing. They try out new ideas and build together; this is community.
Gaming enthusiasts are not excluded from participating in Onchain Summer. The gaming track explores the intersection between blockchain and gaming. This track highlights how developers and designers are using the blockchain to create immersive gaming experiences that offer players new levels of ownership, engagement, and rewards.
This year, there are several standout projects on the gaming track, like Looner and MotoDex.
Looner is an AR Scavenger Hunt game that combines augmented reality with blockchain for immersive and fun experiences. In this AR scavenger hunt, players use their devices to explore real-world locations and find digital items hidden in the environment. When they discover these items, they can earn unique digital collectibles called NFTs (non-fungible tokens). These NFTs can be kept as treasures or traded with others, adding an exciting layer to the game. Imagine playing a high-tech treasure hunt in your city. With Looner, you use your smartphone to look around and find hidden digital treasures in real places like parks, museums, and streets.
Moto Dex is another exciting project on the gaming track. On Moto Dex, you can race motorcycles in a virtual world, competing with others. You can improve your rider's skills and upgrade the tracks for better performance. By participating in these high-speed races and winning competitions, you have the chance to earn real money. Each time you complete certain levels and become a champion, you are rewarded with actual USD, making the game both thrilling and rewarding.
These are just a few examples of the top-notch games you'd see in the buildathon.
