Gangland paints a picture of the grim realities faced by the self-aware, enterprising and super creative Nigerian Youth determined to push boundaries and pursue greatness, but constantly frustrated by the powers that be that have kept the potential of the country as nothing but a tell-tale at best.

Gangland was released on Friday the 13th, November 2020 right in the wake of the notable #EndSARS movement championed by Nigeria's youth; which was a nationwide peaceful protest against police brutality faced by Nigerian youth which the government responded to with state-sanctioned violence and oppression resulting in the loss of lives (particularly the #LekkiMassacre of October 20, 2020 where the Nigerian Army opened live-rounds of firearms on peaceful protesters, resulting in deaths and injuries).

Gangland is significant because it is regarded as one of the pioneering and prominent records of the nascent Nigerian Drill music (sub-genre) movement known as #234Drill. As recognized by foremost Nigerian pop culture mag - NATIVE MAG (Nigeria), leading UK Hiphop mag - GRM DAILY (UK), and leading UK culture MAG - DUMMY, the release of Gangland marked a significant period for the #234Drill movement, particularly because of the larger message it carried.

As described by Culture Custodian (Nigeria):

"Gangland offers a bird’s eye view of life in Nigeria, spun with menacing words to touch on government impunity, corruption, and police brutality, the everyday reality of young people growing up here.

Music will always be the purest form of storytelling, so PSIV turns to drill to capture the emotions he’s feeling, rage, and anger. He has taken it upon himself to journal and document all this in his own very special way, by allowing his undeterred voice to lead the way even as he introduces the world to his fresh sound."

Following the release of Gangland, I have gone on to build a world around what started out as one song, releasing a full range drill EP titled "Welcome to The 234" - a project that captured the entirety of the Nigerian experience from the lens of a globalised Nigerian youth pushing boundaries and beaming light on crucial issues, while still embracing the (sparsely) fun parts of the Nigerian experience. As NATIVE MAG puts it:

"Packing a dizzying array of vocal deliveries, rhyme patterns, and quotable bars, his debut EP gives us a sound introduction into the rapper’s worldview."

Furthermore, I have released a Merch collection titled "Gangland" off the EP, and the Merch collection has now become a Merch line as my team and I shall be releasing our second collection following a successful reception and sale of our first collection.
