There’s no doubt our economic systems have helped us build great things, but they are also driving us to unsustainably extract resources so a select few can accumulate abstract, non-tangible wealth in the form of money. In this podcast, we’ll be exploring the mechanisms of this winner-takes-all economy, and what a system that works for everyone might look like. In this first episode, we’ll be discussing the 3 mechanisms driving our current economic system to self-destruction: Abstraction, Extraction & Accumulation. This is what Daniel Schmachtenberger, a key thinker on the Metacrisis, has referred to as the Ring of Power; an unholy trinity which needs to be reforged in the fires of Mordor by those stubborn and incorruptible enough to escape the call of its power.
In this introductory episode, we discuss the trio of concepts that make up the ring of power, and how they form the base of our current zero-sum economic system.
