The Surface of Web3: A Simple Dive Into Blockchain

What Is Web 3?

Have you play game before?… so basically web3 is next level from web2. when in web2 just the big companies take control, in web 3 users own their assets, data, and online identity. you don’t just use it, but you’re part of it. But first we need to understand the surface or we called it blockchain.

What Is Blockchain? (in simple term)

My Simple Term
Imagine a computer, this computer always generates random code that the computer records whatever you do, and there’s an internet that connects every computer so we can access it from other computers. we can take the computer as a block, that always creates random code every second, and every block is connected with a chain or in this case internet. because it keeps making code in one block, and every second too there’s a new block created it almost impossible to hack.

AI’s Simple Term
Imagine a notebook that everyone can see, but no one can erase or secretly edit. Every time someone writes something in it (a transaction, message, or data), it’s permanently recorded. That’s what a blockchain does — it records data in blocks that are linked (or chained) together.
Each block contains:

  • A list of data or transactions

  • A timestamp

  • A unique ID (called a hash)

  • A link to the previous block

Once a block is added, it’s almost impossible to change without everyone knowing — making blockchain transparent, secure, and trustless. (You probably know which AI is this)

Why Is Blockchain Important In Web3?

Blockchain enables the key promises of Web3:

  • Decentralization: No middlemen. No central control.

  • Ownership: You own your crypto, NFTs, and digital identity.

  • Transparency: All transactions are public and verifiable.

  • Security: It’s nearly impossible to tamper with blockchain data.

Common Web3 Terms You Might Hear

  • dApps (Decentralized Apps): Like websites or apps, but built on blockchain.

  • Smart Contracts: Code that runs automatically on the blockchain without needing a company to manage it.

  • DeFi: Decentralized finance — earn, lend, and trade without banks.

  • NFTs: Digital collectibles or assets that prove ownership.

  • DAO: Decentralized Autonomous Organization — groups run by code and community votes, not CEOs.

Final Thought

Learning blockchain is like seeing the ground floor of a skyscraper. Web3 is what’s being built on top of it — apps, platforms, communities, and even economies. So if you’re exploring blockchain, you’re already walking the path to Web3.
