What is Testing?

Software has rapidly entered our modern life, regardless of whether it is business applications (like a bank client in a branch) for corporate needs or consumer applications (like a navigation system in modern cars). And as a result of this integration with a person, most likely there is no such person who would not encounter the problem of the programs not working properly.

In the case of cars, it is a particular problem due to the large diversity of car models and with the widespread use of complex software such as anti-lock brakes or a GPS system. And it’s a particular problem because these software programs are maintained by human beings and, with our increasing knowledge of computers, we try to control these programs better.

So the discovery of an organization, called the IEEE Driving Electronics Safety Foundation (DESS), and its work to change our lives with the “not in control” problem seems like an obvious step in the right direction.

This discovery came about through a meeting between a researcher from Western New England University and a computer engineer from one of the world’s largest oil companies, a chemical company in the UK, and the head of a car manufacturer in Japan. Together, they developed the idea of collaborating to develop software that can interact with the driver to prevent the occurrence of such “software accidents.”
