aruman is a character in the Lord of the Rings, an epic fantasy novel by the British writer John Ronald Ryle Tolkien.

They call him "White Robe Saruman", and Sindarin calls him "Curun í r L á n". He is one of the most widely known Mayas.

He controlled Isengar and found the crystal ball of truth. In the third era, he helped to fight against the Middle Earth forces of Sauron as Estali (wizard), but was later seduced and corrupted by Sauron.

In various parts of the Middle Kingdom, different ethnic groups have different names for him. Saruman is the name of the northern people. He was the first Estali who arrived in the mainland of China.

He was the Speaker of the Holy White Council. His name means "Man of skill".
