Introduction Cultivating the habits of millionaires will only lead to you becoming a millionaire one day. So, start applying these 7 habits to your day-to-day life and you’ll be a millionaire in no time.
Let’s dive in!
1. Go to bed early
I’m a huge fan of going to bed early and then waking up early. For example, try going to bed at 9 pm and waking up at 5 am. If this is too much then what about going to sleep at 10 pm and waking up at 6 am?
You can waste countless hours trying to finish tasks late at night. So this is the solution! Instead rest late at night and get the tasks done efficiently the following morning.
It’s important to realize that everyone is different, so by all means, if you’re a night owl then block out time in the evening to hustle.
“Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.” — Benjamin Franklin.
2. Eliminate distractions
You can never focus on the number one thing on your to-do list if you have distractions all around you, whether that be your emails or your phone.
Today we live in a world where we have constant notifications going off. You may not realize it but each notification will negatively affect your current task, it’s a real problem. Without this distracting you and taking your attention away, you can better focus on your top tasks.
Here are my top solutions to increase focus:
Download apps on your devices that are designed to increase your focus and productivity.
Put your phone in a different room.
Delegate times for your emails.
Reduce the clutter in your workspace.
Turn on airplane mode.
“Do one thing at a time, and while doing it put your whole soul into it to the exclusion of all else.” — Swami Vivekananda.
3. Practise mindfulness
This is a fantastic way to wind down in the evening or get your day going in the morning. You can do meditations for just 3mins per day, but you would hope to build that up to 10–15mins per day.
Mindfulness will help you focus on the most important things in your life. Enabling you to focus on the task at hand, making you even more efficient.
“Mindfulness is a way of befriending ourselves and our experience.” — Jon Kabat-Zinn.
4. Don’t be deterred by failure
If you want to achieve ultimate productivity then you can’t be afraid of making mistakes. Taking risks is crucial if you want to develop as a person.
Many people dwell on their mistakes, but this is not a sustainable way to live. Schools teach us not to make mistakes, but you must learn to make mistakes, and most importantly learn from them. Try to prevent the same mistakes from happening again, but never fear new mistakes.
Remember: if you don’t fail, you don’t learn.
“It’s fine to celebrate success but it is more important to heed the lessons of failure.” — Bill Gates.
5. Get better at saying “no”
It’s very tempting to say “yes”.
Saying no is hard. It means setting things aside so you can focus on completing your most important tasks. Highly efficient people are good at NOT doing things.
“It’s only by saying NO that you can concentrate on the things that are really important.” — Steve Jobs
6. Take regular breaks
Did you know that workers who walk 30 minutes over their lunch breaks return to work feeling more motivated, enthusiastic, and capable of dealing with stress? This was shown in a study led by the University of Birmingham.
Try to avoid the computer screen during your meal times and breaks. Instead, exercise, meditate or even go for a walk as I talked about above. This will help you return to work better than ever, leading to greater productivity.
“Sometimes when we take a break, we may find that solutions then present themselves.” — Catherine Pulsifer.
7. Make a list
Making a list helps you to remain focused and manage priorities.
Work on one task at a time and then work down the list. Be sure not to start another task until your current task is completed.
“People who want to appear clever rely on memory. People who want to get things done make lists.” — Peter McWilliams.
Summary Highly effective people have mastered overcoming procrastination. They have found ways to manage their time which leads to increased productivity.
These are the main productivity tips:
Be proactive.
Manage your time well, your time is precious.
Make good to-do lists.
