Pixlet Studio is a real-time, collaborative NFT experiment where individuals and teams can come together to create a unique piece of art on shared canvasses. Anyone can mint a uniquely named pixel art Canvas and let their community collaborate on what should be painted on it. The canvas label is unique, meaning if you mint the “Elon Musk” canvas, nobody else can mint one with the same label. Every few minutes, the new pixel changes are reflected in the image in your NFT wallet.

In the past weeks with Rinkeby early access, over 1 million pixels have been painted across 13 test canvasses. We have seen art that spans from simple stick figures and text to entire sections of well thought out landscapes and creations.

While it has been fun seeing the Rinkeby canvasses blossom, we are ready for the next stage in our journey:
We are excited to announce that we will be launching on Ethereum Mainnet on January 15th, 2022 🚀.
In the upcoming 6 weeks, the core team will continue adding UI and gameplay enhancements, and hammering out a few core features that will make community usage more fun. Sometime around Christmas we will open Canvas minting for all users on Rinkeby, to get some feedback on the minting experience.
We created Pixlet Studio because he wanted a truly interactive, fun, multiplayer NFT experience to exist — one that is accessible with nothing more than an Ethereum wallet, but still customizable for community usage.
At the heart of Pixlet Studio is fun — the team wants anyone in the NFT community to be able to band together with friends and their communities, whether it’s to collaborate on masterpieces or just to compete with other groups to see who has the most dedicated community. For this reason, it is completely free to paint and only 0.01 to mint a new canvas.
The team initially chose this price as an assumption that there is at least a 100:1 Painter to Canvas ratio, giving us 0.0001 ETH per user to maintain the servers and support development. There is no maximum supply. In the long term, the team will incentivize canvas creation by providing ways for owners to monetize their canvasses, and artists ways to monetize their creations on the platform.
A v1 Canvas (CNVS) is the first NFT in the Pixlet Studio ecosystem — representing a blank canvas that may be drawn on by multiple people simultaneously to create a unique, dynamic NFT. When you mint your canvas, you give it a unique name (similar to an ENS domain). This means that a name cannot be minted twice — each Canvas name is unique. The metadata of each CNVS is updated every five minutes to ensure that the latest creations are displayed to users who view the token on OpenSea, their wallet, or other NFT platforms.
The canvas holder can set restrictions on who may draw on their canvas, with options ranging from white/blacklisting individual wallets, to restricting access to holders of NFT and Token collections.
When drawing, an artist can see every other person drawing simultaneously. This promotes collaboration, as artists typically come together to work on large sections together. You can hover over pixels to see who is painting with you, and eventually join guilds with them to coordinate artwork.

Example of Canvases live in action

NFTLlama often has a Canvas open during his AMA Twitch streams for viewers to create on.
Ethereum gas fees are far too expensive to be usable by most people. To stay true to the goal of making canvas creation accessible to anybody who wants one, we want to deploy the canvas registrar to rollups in the future. This will make the canvas creation costs negligible, and pause minting on the v1 contract to migrate to a cross-rollup registrar.
In addition, we want to create CNVS derivatives such as “Charity Canvasses” where an organization can buy a canvas that raises money while letting donors paint, and possibly “Event Canvasses” in cooperation with the POAP team where a canvas is time-locked after the end of the event and only paintable by event participants.
Gutter Cat Gang, Sneaky Vampire Syndicate, and Sappy Seals are just a few of the projects that have already reserved their canvases!
Gives you the opportunity to further engage with your community in an innovative and fun way
Ensures your community members have a way to actively engage with fellow members
Promotes creative expression that is shared by your entire community simultaneously
Is a great option for community nights — you could have a Studio Night!
The Llamaverse community has had a chance to use the canvases. Here is what some of them had to say:
“I didn’t expect it to be this fun!”
“Everyone did a great job. I’m not that great…Just want to contribute to this amazing community, and hoping that more artists will join and show their artwork as well.”
“Nice little break from some tasks I need to get done.”
“I think with Llama’s help and once the NFT is out more people will join our community and this will naturally grow. Once I heard that Llama will launch this Pixlet I was really thrilled and excited because I love making pixels. I’m not an artist actually, but I just enjoy making nice drawings. It satisfies me a lot, and I'm really looking forward to those NFT’s but I'm more excited for more colors!”
