In the past, Puerto Ricans were fortunate enough to have businesses with mainland accounts open and to receive shipments. In recent months, however, companies have closed, causing Puerto Rico to find itself with empty shelves. The Rev. Noel Torres, a Puerto Rican from the town of Manati, tells Puerto Ricans in Florida that the survival of the island depends on federal government action. “What you need to do right now is to save what little you can,” Torres tells the American Red Cross volunteers. “I don’t want you to think about what you need for me right now, but what you need to survive.
