What is Layer Zero?

LayerZero is an interoperability protocol - or an omnichain - designed to connect different blockchains.

If you want to send funds from your MetaMask to a different network on the same wallet, well, you can’t.

You have to first send them to a centralized exchange or use some sort of bridge.

But transferring assets via bridges requires a separate interface for each pair of chains.

Layer Zero, on the other hand, wants to create a base interoperability layer for the entire blockchain ecosystem, so a true omnichain solution.

To achieve this, it uses an Oracle and a Relayer. The Oracle sends the information from one chain to another and the Relayer submits the transaction proof.

Layer Zero lets you easily transfer assets across multiple chains much more effectively than a bridge. It’s also more secure and cost-effective.

This also provides a greater level of interoperability for activities such as swapping, lending, borrowing, and providing liquidity on multi-chain dApps.

Several established projects, such as SushiSwap, PancakeSwap, Uniswap, Trader Joe, Radiant Capital, and Hashflow, have already implemented Layer Zero as their blockchain interoperability solution.
