Welcome to the Scapes Archive

There are two main reasons for this move: to preserve history and to make our assets more interoperable. Happy Birthday Scapes

Whenever i think about the origin of Scapes, i go back to this thread. https://twitter.com/jalil_eth/status/1421099405160030208 July 2021. I had been itching badly to build in web3. I had been learning Solidity since February and building my open source contract extensions while properly diving into Ethereum and i just really really wanted to apply what i had learned so far. Welcome home.
We are now fully onchain with our own marketplace and ScapeBound tokens. Our contract migration went smooth and as planned. Yesterday night, we deployed an ensemble of 8 new smart contracts that now power Scapes and airdropped 20,000 NFTs. PunkScapes became relics of the past. They had their art destroyed and have been replaced with 10,000 new Scape NFTs which have been delivered to their respective holders. In addition, we have issued 10,000 SES (Scape Entertainment System) child-NFTs.Our mi...

Bringing Music NFTs to the Scapes Collection
For the uninitiated, Scapes is a collection of 10,000 tiny landscapes, created piece by piece by the hands of jalil.eth. Yes, they are banners. #yotb.
Since our inception, we’ve been building experiences on top of the collection. Our second chapter deepened the experience with Scapes — we added animation, movement, and interactivity. People were able to explore their tiny worlds.
We created a Banner Builder to enable people to share other NFT projects inside their banners.
We explored AI art through Gallery27, which distributes royalties back to Scapes holders.
Today, we become a Music NFT 🎶
We have added 10,000 generative music NFT’s to the original collection. Each Scape now has a corresponding SoundScape- a 64 second piece of algorithmically generated music, created by team member Ben Cronin.
What does that mean, exactly?
1.) All SoundScapes are live on OpenSea, etc. on their corresponding Scape. This is not a new token, but an addition to existing tokens. Use the ‘volume’ button to toggle the sound on/off. This is free for all holders.

2.) There is now a dedicated seamlessly looping player, available at Scape.radio. You can enter your Scape # in the search-bar, or scroll endlessly though all 10,000 Scapes.
https://vimeo.com/730008992?embedded=true
3.) We also launched a dedicated channel in the Scapes Discord, which plays SoundScapes in perpetuity. You can add Scapes to the cue if you’d like to hear a particular SoundScape. It’s a variation on “Chill-beats to study to”.. a place to study, hang, vibe… etc.

What’s a generative music NFT?
Scapes were visually assembled by superimposing layers of traits. Many generative NFT collections are created using this process. By randomizing traits in the collection, statistical and visual rarity come into play once they are assembled by code.
Our approach to Scape.Radio was the same: we composed a 64-second loop for each trait in the collection, then combined them into a unique song using code to following the original 10k collection.
“I wanted to describe those worlds with music, and create a common sonic identity they could share. I also wanted to honor the on-chain assembly of all the traits, and give up a sense of creative control. Instead of composing full pieces I created 108 individual loops that represented each visual trait of Scapes. My hope is that the music is fun as a listening experience. I also hope listeners feel more connected to the visual collection, and become awake to the harmony of their algorithmic assembly. Jalil did not construct each Scape by hand, nor did I create any of the specific SoundScapes, but they live together as a full collection.” — Ben Cronin, SoundScapes composer.
Our approach to Web3 and technology has always been through the lens of exploration and curiosity. Our exploration into Music NFTs is no different; we were curious how we could use music to enhance the original collection, and how to leverage technology as a creative prompt. Scape.Radio does exactly that. As we grow Scape.Radio, our plan is to explore ways that we can contribute to the Music NFT space.
We hope that Scape.Radio can serve as an on-ramp into the NFT collection, and that it makes you happy. It can be a study aid, a dance party, a place to chill, or a place to be creative. Music is for !vibing, and we do hope you !vibe.
Expect more soon.
Peace, Love, Scapes forever.
