Sean
I am still shipping fixes and features in the higher notes app.
My thesis for the crypto apps I’m building is quite simple. Anyone who has spent time in crypto knows we need more users. We’ve only got 7% of the world owning crypto. That means the other 93% either hasn’t had crypto cross their radar or they have no need for crypto.
So how do we put crypto on their radar or give them a need for it? I’m not quite sure. Store of value in Bitcoin hasn’t done it, world computer in Ethereum hasn’t done it, art in NFTs hasn’t done it, tokenizing assets hasn’t done it, memecoins hasn’t done it.
So where are these people and why don’t they use crypto? Not sure about that either but I’ve been thinking about it. If you follow me, you may have seen me post about the crypto apps I’ve launched. One is a notes app branded with higher assets; it has a Farcaster and Zora integration. The other is a word search game that has a Coinbase smart wallet for minting a completed game as an NFT. These are not apps with crypto as the center, but they make use of crypto in some way. Is it a way that makes sense? Probably not. But with the help of AI I’ve been able to build and launch these ideas literally within a week.
If you search for notes apps in app stores, there are hundreds of options with millions of downloads in total. Same goes for word search games. Will either of these apps I made attract any of these millions of people? I don’t know, but I don’t think these people would understand a bonding curve or how to protect their seed phrase and use a crypto wallet. My thesis is if I create an app that's not really a crypto app but has a crypto feature, it could go viral and then all their friends are using a crypto feature. Now all the sudden these people have a need to use or learn about crypto.
And it costs me next to nothing to launch these apps. I’m using open source software and Ethereum. If I need a database for any reason, I pay like $2/month for a small one and I can use it for any of the apps. It costs me $100/year for an Apple developer account. That’s all my expenses. I don’t even consider my time as an expense because with AI it only takes me a week or two to build the app. I also have fun doing it and learn something new. I’ll build any random idea I can think of. My goal is to launch 4 more this year and see if I can get one to stick. We have 93% of the world’s attention available for the taking. There are many ways we can grab it, and at least I won’t have the regret of not trying.
Please extend a warm welcome to my web3-curious friend @brandon-haggard Here’s a chance to build another advocate for the space, and get fresh take / potential new user for your product. 👇 1. What about web3 gets you most excited? You can't say airdrops or memecoins. 2. What are you building, what hypothesis are you testing, and why?
