For a lot of independent artists in the music industry Daniel Allen was the person who got the ball rolling and the ideas flowing when it came to Web3. To those of you who don’t know him, Daniel is an artist based out of LA creating tight pop oriented tracks with a variety of singers and rappers. When it comes to Web3, he’s done things that no artist has. It’s truly remarkable when you take a closer look at his journey. The moment he really caught our eye was when he released his Overstimulated EP.
In a span of 24 hours, Daniel was able to raise 50 ETH (Roughly $100k at the time) from his supporters in exchange for 50% ownership in the EP. We’d seen massive numbers like this raised before, but it was all from artists who already had a massive following in Web2. Daniel was the first to do this as a small to mid tier artist and that meant absolutely everything. This raised the question, “Can we actually make a living with our art without having thousands or millions of fans?” All of a sudden, entering the music industry as an artist no longer meant the dichotomy between “starving artist” or “rich and famous”. Now, anyone could make a living.
In October 2021 we had the privilege of performing at the very first High Ground Music & Arts Festival in Denver. On the lineup was Snakehips, Kasbo, Louis Futon, Pluko, Chet Porter, and so many more. The atmosphere was immaculate, the weather pristine and… we had over 50 people fly out to see us. The support was immense, heart warming, and inspiring. This was around the time when we were first introduced to the blend of Web3 and music. One primary point we kept hearing was that “100 true fans is all you need” (to make a living with your art).
In the Web2 world, it’s easy to get hundreds and thousands of people to “like” or “comment” on your posts, but what significance does this really have? Someone can be a super fan, or friend, that wants to support you because they believe in you, but the reach of support is limited. They can listen to your music, attend your show, even buy your merch, but ultimately those opportunities are far and few in between and so, they reserve to “liking”, “sharing”, and “commenting”. Now, in comes Web3.
We had the thought: If people are willing to fly all the way to Colorado, buy a festival ticket, and spend their valuable time with us - Why not give them a way to support that’s even easier? This would mean a plethora of opportunity. The ability to work less hours at a day job and in turn, spend more time on the art. Increase funding to reach our artistic vision with new marketing, collaborations and production. Most importantly, being closer to the people who believe in us and giving them a direct line of involvement in the success of our project. So, we decided to open that door.
Above all, our music, performance, and visual art are now at a point that feels truly authentic to us. We’re immensely proud of our next single “I Found God”, our live show and everything that is to follow. Every time we get on stage, it feels amazing. There are no nerves, only excitement to bring others into our world for the next hour. The path is now clear, and with clarity comes new inspiration.
With the advent of support that Web3 has to offer, we can augment our existing ideas to create tighter production, experiences and memories. More opportunities for collaboration with other artists of all mediums. More funding for marketing so we can ensure those who will be moved by our music and performance will hear about us in the first place. Now, anyone can be a helping hand in that curation.
We will be releasing a 1/1 collectible of our next single “I Found God”, this Thursday August 25th, on Catalog. We hope you can be apart of it 🖤🤍.
