How Can I Keep My Crypto Safe?

post image

With the emergence of Web 3.0, crypto became more important than ever. People like me who are dealing with cryptocurrencies most of their days will tell you that the most important part of this life is to make sure your assets are secure. But how can I secure my digital assets? Well there’s few ways to do it. Let’s jump into it :

1- Not even mentioning you have a way with crypto with anyone

Unless it’s a close family member or a close friend, even then I’m not sure if it’s a good move to share this information with anyone. If crypto is your 9–5, whether it’s NFTs or day trading, you need a cover up story for when asked about your job.

2- Have a dummy wallet for emergencies

Let’s imagine you’re walking down the street, and someone with a $5 wrench comes for your wallet passphrase, not a pretty picture eh?

Often times many of crypto-related muggings and robberies is just like that. All they need to know is that you have a considerable amount of crypto and that’s more than enough for the determined ones.

It’s better to have a dummy hot wallet or even better, a dummy cold wallet like Ledger or Prokey with yourself to buy yourself an out when you get mugged for your crypto

3- Exchange wallets are not your wallets!

Unless you are a day trader and use your funds daily, you shouldn’t keep your assets on exchanges, especially centralized exchanges. If a hacker manages to break into the servers of an exchange or even successfully phishes an employee of an exchange, no one will be safe! So try to keep your assets in your wallets (cold ones are better) and only send them to an exchange when you want to sell or buy any other crypto asset.

4- Pay your taxes

Many people think that cryptos are tax free, which I don’t even know where did this come from. Even in the said “Tax free” countries, there is no real way you can pay 0% tax. Estonia and El Salvador are the most hyped countries when it comes to crypto taxing, but as it turns out, El Salvador is not a “safe country” and “Estonia’s residency visa was not nearly as great as what it was touted for”.

5- Always make sure you have full control on your accounts

2FA … Just use 2FA. Ok? It’s actually a good thing! I’ve seen so many people not using it just because they have to do an extra step logging into their accounts.

I tried to tell most important things about crypto security and how to lowering the risk of losing assets to the minimum. there are a lot of ways to make sure your assets are safe. If your curious I’d recommend here.
