As an all in one platform, Zora allows us to enter the world of blockchain and digital assets without prior experience. We can set up a wallet, add funds with a credit card and HODL creator coins with only an email. This simplified method of onboarding is both easy and dangerous for those without prior experience.

With the power that comes with blockchains and digital assets comes great responsibility. It is important to understand the fundamentals of blockchain safety and following a few simple guidelines can ensure your funds stay safe.
Seed Phrase:
The seed phrase is the most important safety feature of a crypto wallet. A seed phrase is a 12-to-24-word sequence that serves as a master key to access and recover a crypto wallet. This randomly generated phrase allows you to restore your wallet and digital assets if the wallet is lost or damaged. Make sure it is written down on a physical piece of paper and stored securely offline, as anyone with the phrase can gain full control of your funds.
Wallet Safety:
Most Secure:
To properly set up a high value account on Zora we recommend using a Ledger wallet paired with an online wallet extension like BASE wallet. This is going to be the safest method available to you. In crypto this is called a "cold wallet". The seed phrase is set up when you first turn on the Ledger, is stored offline and never entered or seen on a computer. To send funds or creator coins off of Zora, the transaction will need to be approved on the cold wallet while connected to the Zora account. Without access to this wallet or seed phrase the funds cannot be moved.
Less Secure:
A Zora account can also be set up with a phone or browser extension wallet called a "hot wallet". There are many available that have been battle tested and are used by crypto natives daily such as BASE, MetaMask, Phantom or Rainbow wallet. When creating these your seed phrase is shown to you on your computer or phone. Make sure to write it down and store securely offline, as with the cold wallet above. When sending funds the transaction will be signed by this wallet. The risk here is that the wallet is always connected to the internet making it vulnerable to hacks, computer viruses or any malicious links that you click while signed into the wallet which can result in loss of funds. The best practice while using a hot wallet is to not click any links, ever.
Least Secure:
Using only an email for any Zora account is the highest risk. Most people don't have highly secure email passwords therefore it is much easier for hackers to gain access to an email account. With the email verification system, if access to your email is compromised anyone with access to it will be able to withdraw funds from your Zora account.
If a Zora account has been set up with an email, it is possible to connect a wallet address afterwards. Once a wallet address is connected to a Zora account it is final and cannot be changed.
Hopefully this guide provides a basic understanding of wallets and how to safely navigate the Zora ecosystem. Stay safe and let us know if you have any questions or need help setting up a Zora account.
