Possibilities and use cases for NFTs are ever-changing and truly endless. We believe that in order for the potential to be realized, there needs to be a way to add verifiability to NFTs without using a centralized party or intermediary. NFT verification should be done on-chain and at the asset layer to preserve the decentralization of blockchain networks. The ability to do this will increase trust for creators, projects, platforms, and users alike.
Bad news plagues the Web3 space on a continuous basis. The truth of the matter is that security has not been defined well for crypto assets, blockchain networks, NFTs, and users. We might ask ourselves, what do we expect in Web3 when it comes to security? What are we looking for? How do we expect this to show up as features in the products we use? Can we stop bad things from happening? If so, how?
Defining what security looks like for Web3 is critical to the future success of Web3. Tantamount Labs aims to solve security issues in the Web3 space through on-chain and crypto native solutions. We want everyone to be able to use what we build!
Our first product solves the issue of NFT verification. What does this mean?
Let’s get into it. Have you ever wondered if your NFT is fake or real? Curious about how you can tell the difference? You are not alone. Counterfeit NFTs and scams plague the creators, platforms, and users. Many marketplaces try to remedy this through analytics, but this only occurs after the fraudulent transactions have taken place and often leaves you, the user, shit out of luck with a fake NFT.
We added a verification layer to the minting process so that every single NFT and NFT collection can include verifiable attributes that can be viewed in real time. At creation, you can use our smart contract templates and libraries to embed an attribute of your choice (digital signature, domain name, social handle, website, etc.) into your NFT or NFT collection that can be verified on-chain. Our first iteration of this is for images, but stay tuned for additional media support.
We use a steganography algorithm to embed a chosen attribute without altering the image and artwork, and we use public private key cryptography to ensure that your attributes cannot be copied and used by someone else nefariously. The NFT is verified or not verified based on the ability of the attributes to be verified cryptographically.
Our product can be applied to multiple types of media files inclusive of images, text, video, and sound. We are so excited for the possibilities. Our goal is to add verifiability to every type of NFT on-chain and across every NFT ecosystem.

We used our verification product on one of our co-creators’ very own NFT collection! Check it out below and go ahead and bid if you would like to purchase!
The Nisemono collection is a play on the Japanese word for counterfeit 偽物 (ニセモノ). Each NFT is a reference to anime tropes and characters hence the play on words with the character’s themselves being imposters, but original in their own digital way. The NFT media contains anti-counterfeiting measures to ensure originality of each minted token. The art is commissioned courtesy of Reddoreiku Art!This project serves as an example of anti-counterfeiting measures that can be used to establish authenticity for NFT collections without relying on dubious measures for verification (eg: social media accounts) or cryptotracing and mining of blockchain contracts which is difficult for the average user. All NFT Media & Metadata are digitally signed by @anthonygtellez on keybase. They can be verified using saltpack.
