Elon Musk confirmed on Saturday that SpaceX is building a foundry in Bastrop, Texas, to cast blades and vanes for large gas turbines. SpaceX is targeting the component bottleneck that has helped push large-turbine delivery into 2030, and Musk says in-house casting could bring gas turbines online up to 18 months faster.
Here's why that matters. Chips aren't the only thing holding AI back anymore. GPU shortages are still an issue, but a second constraint has emerged, which is the physical power grid, and gas turbine maker GE Vernova says it's essentially sold out of production capacity through 2030 due largely to AI infrastructure demand.
The blades are the hard part. The blades used in these engines often require 60 to 90 weeks to produce from start to finish, because they're subjected to extreme forces and temperatures, and casting the blades and vanes is the limiting factor for natural gas turbine production. If SpaceX pulls this off, it controls when its own data centers turn on. That's a different kind of moat than owning the best model.

OpenAI has bought tens of thousands of Apple Mac mini and Mac Studio computers for reinforcement learning and computer-use agent training, The Information reported on Saturday. Anthropic is doing something similar, renting Mac minis through Amazon Web Services.
The reason is memory, not brand loyalty. Reinforcement learning with computer-use agents requires the AI to run inside an operating system, observe what's on screen, take actions, and receive feedback millions of times, and that workflow is memory-bound and parallelism-light compared to transformer pre-training, which makes Apple's architecture a practical fit.
This puts Apple inside a market Nvidia has owned for a decade. Mac revenue grew 29% last quarter, and AI lab bulk orders add demand without Apple spending billions on data center infrastructure. If you own AAPL, that's a new revenue story you weren't pricing in a month ago.

NASA's Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope launched at 7:26 a.m. EDT Sunday aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket from Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. It's now on a three-month, million-mile trip to its final orbit.
What makes Roman worth watching is speed and scale. The telescope is designed to survey the universe a thousand times faster than Hubble, and it will send back 1.4 terabytes of data every day, the highest data rate of any NASA astrophysics mission so far.
NASA anticipates releasing Roman's first images by early 2027.

Gambit Security published research documenting operators of the Aurora ransomware group using Cursor Agent, an ordinary commercial AI coding assistant running Claude underneath, to carry out hands-on attack work inside 10 victim organizations between April 8 and May 26, 2026.
The method was plain English. Operators handed the agent credentials or an existing foothold, then gave it instructions like map the network, tell me what rights this account has, install a VPN client, run a certificate attack. If a browser extension you rely on breaks today, this is why. Beginning August 31, Google will remove remaining Manifest V2 extensions from the Chrome Web Store, ending developers' ability to distribute updates through the store for extensions using the legacy framework.
Previously installed extensions may continue functioning in certain cases, but users will no longer be able to reinstall them after removal. Some older ad blockers and privacy tools are affected. Check your critical extensions now, before you lose the ability to reinstall them.

NASA released a recap of Sunday's launch, and it's the most shareable clip of the day. The Roman Space Telescope lifted off from Launch Complex 39A at 7:26 a.m. EDT on August 30, 2026, with the Falcon Heavy captured transiting the sun as it climbed.
The telescope is named for a pioneer. Roman was NASA's first chief astronomer and the first woman in an executive leadership role at the agency, and she advocated for a telescope in space, leading to Hubble and earning the nickname "Mother of Hubble."
