"Sustainable development is impossible without peace and stability."

Last week, Lutra—one of our most insightful DAO members and our top in-house writer—shared an excellent article on stablecoins (linked below). He explored how stablecoins function, why they matter, and what gives them true significance in our ecosystem. Meanwhile, as global and societal stability feels increasingly uncertain, it’s more important than ever to focus on what we can shape: building, creating, and strengthening our community. While some may be drawn to negativity and destruction, we choose to channel our collective energy into positive action. That is the heart of ALANA—not neutrality, but an unwavering commitment to creation, progress, and standing for what’s good. Let's get started on setting you up with knowledge of Web3!
Governance
In the context of Web3, governance refers to the systems and processes by which decentralized communities make collective decisions about protocol upgrades, resource allocation, and rules. Effective governance is crucial for the stability and long-term success of decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) and blockchain projects. Often, cryptocurrencies or alternative tokens, known as NFTs, are used to perform acts of governance in Web3.
DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization)
A DAO is an organization governed by smart contracts and community voting rather than centralized leadership. DAOs ideally enable transparent and democratic decision-making, empowering members to shape the project's direction. Those alternate organizations are still in an experimental phase, but are worth exploring.
Protocol
At its core definition, a protocol is a set of rules or standards that define how data is exchanged and transactions are conducted on a blockchain network. Stable and well-designed protocols are the backbone of reliable and secure decentralized systems. Often, protocols in Web3 are also open-source or partially open-source, encouraging more product development on top of a protocol.

The blockchain space never sleeps, and small and large events are always around the corner. But no need to stress and have a fear of missing out (FOMO) because we've got your back.
Technically, not an event everyone can potentially attend, but nonetheless important is the GENIUS Act, which was passed by the U.S. Senate in a bipartisan vote last week. It is the first comprehensive crypto regulatory framework in the United States.
Permissionless is going into its fourth event phase this month from the 24th to the 26th in Brooklyn, New York. The event will mainly focus on DeFi, token design, and development. Additionally, a 36-hour hackathon for builders and developers will be part of it as well. If you are around, try to get a last-minute ticket.
We invite forward-thinking projects and brands to partner with us and showcase their products and services to our engaged audience.
