My First NFT Film

I believe from what I’ve understood about NFTs and the future of Web3 that we’re on the precipice of one of the biggest revolutions of artistic control in this history of humankind. Not only from a creative standpoint, but also from a financial standpoint.

I am an independent filmmaker with 3 feature films, multiple television series, and a plethora of short work under my belt. Up until this point I’ve relied on centralized funding: loans, investments, or the gatekeeping of major networks and brands. While this is traditional and the way of the current landscape, I think NFTs have opened up an extremely interesting door to artists of all mediums.

This door is particularly interesting as a filmmaker where your work is often handled by many forms of middle management that are not worried about the story, distribution, or marketing of the film, but are rather worried about accumulating a mass set of IP for their libraries. Small independent productions are lost by the wayside no matter how much talent and quality is put into the production.

Web3 is a truly democratized way for artists to own their distributed work. I believe making a quality short film will serve as an experiment for opening the door to larger format feature films and series in the future, which is why I’m crowdfunding through the sale of NFTs for my next short film: Wallop.
