Potential Distribution Methods for Dot Swoosh Access NFTs

The day has come, Nike (@dotSWOOSH) has entered the chat with a launch on RugRadio. This will be a platform to onboard web3 curious folk who want to be both a part of the Nike Inc ecosystem while trying out NFTs.

With that in mind, I take a look at potential distribution methods for Nike as it relates to token-gated access to their .SWOOSH platform and some thoughts on how to manage their sibling CloneX Ecosystem at the same time.

Note: This assumes the platform will be token-gated via an “access pass” NFT

From Left to Right:

Public mint @ 0.08E

  • Pro: Assuming a 40K supply for the genesis pass, this would bring in $3.8M in revenue for NVS just for access to paid mints / utility alone and gives Nike execs & breathing room to operate and secure a budget

  • Con: Most extractive method of distribution, could lead the team to be in massive “utility debt” from community. Ignores CloneX holders

  • Least likely option in my opinion, but if they went this route, I’m sure it would sell out

Free Claim for first 40K users

  • Pro: Allows users to claim their .SWOOSH ID for free and the access pass as an incentive to sign up and join the platform

  • Con: No financial confirmation of willingness for users to spend on the platform and missed revenue opportunity off the bat. Ignores CloneX holders

  • Given that we know the .SWOIOSH IDs are free claims, this could be a good pathway to future paid mints

Free Claim for Clones + 20K Paid Mint

  • Pro: Gives a nod to CloneX holders while also implementing a revenue generating mechanism (bringing in just shy of $2M). Could also drive interest in the CloneX ecosystem from traditional web2 collectors who are on edge from entering the ecosystem

  • Con: Potential competing priorities with RTFKT and NVS + missed revenue opportunities

All Clones Get Auto Whitelist (in perpetuity?)

Note: Assumes no general token gated access pass

  • Pro: Clones have “god tier” not only within the RTFKT ecosystem but also Nike Inc’s - potentially putting them on par with an avatar project that NVS may or may not launch

  • Con: Potential competing priorities with RTFKT and NVS + missed revenue opportunities

  • This would be the easiest option to implement

X Number of “Active” Clones Can Claim Access Pass

  • Pro: Rewards the most “active” participants within the ecosystem (MNLTH questooors, Gagosian attendees, etc etc) with a special “soul bound” badge that gives them priority access to NVS utility

  • Con: Difficult to assess “active users” within an NFT ecosystem (has never been done before - yet Azuki is working on a badging system)

  • This would be the most interesting of the 5 options I presented, yet would need to be implemented well in advance of the .SWOOSH launch (there’s still time)!
