Letters from Antarctica

4th February 1972

There’s a movie on downstairs but as it was shown on the way down, and also the probable cause of my sea sickness, I’m giving it a miss.

Breakfast saw only us and three others. Not too many more appeared for lunch, but dinner as usual was a full complement, minus those who’ve been crook in bed since we left Casey.

Gee, I feel sorry for those few. Each day someone takes titbits from the meals to those unfortunates to keep them alive. A few come to meals, have a bite, or see what’s cooking and rush out again.

Macquarie Island am tomorrow. Early breakfast coming up and a good day for flying, I hope. The length of our stay at Macquarie — one to three days — depends on the weather.

10.00 pm. I’m off to bed.
