First off, Jacques Derrida was a 20th century philosopher who created the idea of deconstruction. This theory said man cannot have the final meaning of texts or speeches. Because words don't have any meaning given to them by ultimate reality or nature. For example, the word “economics” is just a random set of characters with no necessity attached to the science of finance .

Derrida caused a revolution in universities in the West, and spread to other disciplines. From American debates over what does the Constitution say, is there only one sound interpretation of the Bible, and how many genders or sexualities there are, Derrida’s influence is felt. The era of transmitting classical interceptions of written or human behavior was over.

So what does Derrida have to do with finance and decentralization? Defi is a philosophy of finance with the idea of undoing, destroying certain ways of thinking about finance. From what is considered a valuable asset to how a financial transaction are to be carried out, defi is innovating Picaso like financial instruments. One can imagine Parc de La Villette being a Wall Street building that runs a defi project in the near future for Shiba Inu or Dogecoin. Since It is a break away from the binary thinking of not just Socialism/Capitalism binaries of doing finance, but how financial buildings should even look!

Defi is constructing financial entities that have never been seen before. It is the dream come true of the 1990’s Cyber Punks. Traditional forms of doing business are longer the norm and, now almost anything can be turned into a financial instrument. But, will deconstruction of finance lead to a more productive era of finance, or will it lead to creating financial instruments that are like Duchamp’s art?
