There seems to be a misunderstanding, or perhaps an acceptance for the sake of simplicity, of what consensus mechanisms blockchains use. Everywhere you read on the internet, they say a form of the following “Proof of Stake (POS) is a consensus algorithm for XYZ chain” or “Proof of Work (POW) is a consensus algorithm for XYZ chain”.
