The main idea is to have a platform to discover up and coming rap artists and also collect rap verses as NFTs by your favorite artists. This could expand to other types of music, comedy, etc. but seems very well suited to start with rap. The music industry was hugely disrupted by P2P software in the past and will be hugely disrupted by P2P software in the near future.
P2P file sharing disrupted music distribution in a major way. This ultimately benefitted smaller artists who could now be heard by a much broader audience. It also let artists bootstrap and build a following much easier before monetizing. P2P tokens will disrupt the monetization channel for artists which should also benefit smaller up and coming artists by allowing them to more easily capture the value of their brand at earlier stages in ways not possible before.
There’s not a lack of talent, but there’s definitely a lack of platforms with great incentives. A platform like the one I’m describing would ideally create more of a meritocracy in which the artists who are valued highest by their fans are the ones rewarded the most. The platform would offer an NFT collection of the best rap lines, 16 bars (30 seconds) max. Audio clip, lyrics and the artists info all displayed on the card. In purchasing an NFT verse fans would own a collectible item that they could display that would play back parts of songs when others interact with it.
The idea is essentially a music platform like TikTok, but for discovering underground rap and supporting your favorite artists as well. This platform would help artists in a huge way with music discovery. TikTok has become one of the main ways people are discovering music now and its even unearthing old bands that haven’t had large popularity in years. This would do something similar for discovery but having ownership in a collectible would add stickiness to the product. Digital cards of rappers with a verse on them could and should be collected like pro athlete cards are.
To create a more authentic experience and mimic actual card collecting, rap verse cards condition could randomly degrade over time. For example, the condition on the back of card might start as mint and after a year and a half could be downgraded to like new condition. This would add another element to look for when collecting verses.
This platform would run on top of an exchange that would start listing NFTs when artists, or anyone who owns the rights to the music, uploads verses from a song. They would then be paid directly when fans buy their NFT cards. Basically, a collectable highlight reel for rap artists.
