How to Start a Headless Brand
Public Assembly was created to explore what happens when you take concepts like hyperstructures and headless brands literally. Spun out of ZORA (where I currently contribute towards engineering + devrel), PA has learned a lot very quickly by grounding our approach to organizational development in these theories. 143 days into the experiment (and with some hours to kill in Narita Airport), the time feels right to share some observations we’ve made so far.What’s Changed Since 2019"BRIDGE SZN II...

Experiment Log 21-35 Recap
Start of Phase 2In my last Mirror post, I talked about having just started to learn React, with my eyes set on the web3con hackathon at the end of the week. Fast forward 21 days and I have since progressed from basic React, began/finished the hackathon working on ecodrips, learned a ton about solidity and the EVM, failed to fully deploy my team’s project, and took a week off to explore Chile. It’s been a little crazy to say the least. That being said, I am feeling ENERGIZED having taken a sho...

Experiment Log 11-20 Recap
Still Going StrongOfficially 20% of the way through this experiment, days are flying by and I’m learning a ton. This is how I would describe the current vibes: https://twitter.com/0xTranqui/status/1494696348108701699?s=20&t=oCAwMtgAVwo7OuZzY8zBQgStatus UpdateThe last 10 days were defined by moving out of HTML/CSS land and taking my first steps with JavaScript. I had been told that this is where things were gonna start getting hard, and unfortunately people were not exaggerating. Going into th...

Excited to say that as of today I am 10% of the way through my 100 day experiment focused on blockchain development. If you haven’t muted notifications from me on Twitter yet, I will add you to the allow-list for my first NFT project.
For those who have no idea what I’m talking about, read the thread I’m linking below. TL;DR is I discovered that crypto is actually real and then quit my job/moved to Chile to focus on reinventing myself as a web3 dev.

There’s no less annoying way of phrasing this so I’ll just say it: everything is going great!
I have picked up the basics of HTML + CSS relatively quickly (check out the first three projects I made here, here, and here), and have gotten to the point where I’m able to create sites that actually host real content. Check out this mindfulness/meditation guide I created for Developer DAO. Just a week ago I would have no idea how to do this.
The growth of my web3 network and twitter account is going much better than expected (my first tweet went semi viral), my Spanish is picking up right where I left it in Madrid back in 2019, and I have complete control of my time to do whatever I want. Living with this much freedom has unlocked a level of creativity/inspiration/motivation I have not felt for a long time.
Also, I made a friend here. You can find him @angelgomeztw on Twitter and I highly recommend you giving him a follow. Super chill Venezuelan guy living in Santiago working freelance web3 projects who I met through D_D. He’s pretty much doing exactly what I hope to be doing in a few months. Being connected to a global network of web3 developers has its perks.
Yes, I will continue to shill Developer DAO until I die.
So far I have progressed through basic HTML and CSS, started using VS Code and GitHub, and have gotten semi proficient with CSS Flexbox. Check out the detailed notes I’ve been keeping here if you want a closer look into my work. Here’s where the rest of my roadmap stands as of today:
HTML (complete)
Basic CSS (complete)
Transfer workflows onto VS Code (complete)
CSS Flexbox (complete)
Get set-up on GitHub (complete)
CSS Grid
JavaScript
React.js
Node.js / Next.js
Solidity
Infrastructure needed to deploy dApps
The rest of my life
While it depends on how fast I can progress through things, my next 10 days will be focused on getting up to speed with JavaScript.
I realized right as I was getting started that not only is this an experiment in learning how to become a web3 developer, it’s also an experiment in content creation and building a twitter “brand.” I cringe whenever I say that last part, but if you’re tapped into CT (CT = Crypto Twitter, somehow I just found that out two weeks ago), you know that a lot of the major devs have large twitter accounts where they can showcase their work / shitpost / network with the broader web3 ecosystem. My shitposting still has a long way to go.
Leaving a shout out here to everyone who has helped me so far. It feels amazing to be where I am right now, and none of this would be possible without the people guiding me along the way. I can’t name everyone, but here’s a short list:
@MeatHacker (giving me 1v1 guidance)
@pbillingsby_eth (same^)
@emmbodiment (first D_D convo I ever had)
@grow_love (development guild leader)
@dabit3 (came up with the idea for D_D)
Until next time…
