Moonshot AI Unveils Kimi K2 Thinking, Open-Source Model Matching GPT-5 Benchmarks
Beijing-based Moonshot AI released Kimi K2 Thinking , a 1 trillion-parameter open-source model under a permissive license, available on Hugging Face.
It supports a 256,000-token context and up to 300 sequential tool calls, achieving top scores on Humanity's Last Exam at 44.9% with tools and 51.0% in heavy mode, while offering inference costs six times lower than Claude 4.5 Sonnet.
Trained for about $4.6 million despite U.S. chip restrictions, the model advances agentic reasoning in coding, research, and writing, with early tests showing strong performance against closed-source rivals.
I would like to encourage readers to write to me with their feedback about the content that I curate. Even short messages are appreciated
