In this article, we explain the new release for Unlock users and how Liquid Staked MAV through unkMAV is different to locking MAV as veMAV directly on Maverick and why one would choose to do so.
Unlock is a yield and governance protocol built on top of Maverick AMM. Our purpose is to increase utility for Maverick users, and to fully preserve its foundational values at scale.

unkMAV is a Liquid Staked version of Maverick’s MAV token. It can be obtained by heading to the Unlock MAV Locker page and staking your MAV tokens to mint unkMAV. Unlock converts your MAV for you via Maverick to optimize rewards and voting power, instead of getting untransferrable veMAV, that you would get if you locked your tokens on Maverick directly — you will receive unkMAV — a Liquid Staked version of veMAV.
In Stage 1 of The Unlock Games, users have made Unlock one of the leading MAV Liquid Staking tools around with 28% of all veMAV Liquid Staked through Unlock. Over 6,000,000 veMAV is trustlessly staked with Unlock. The community has been engaged with enhancing Unlock and we’re exceedingly thankful for all the feedback and ideas users have provided to us.

You can immediately choose to mint and stake on the locker page. This is an option for you if you want to fully take part in voting while also receiving additional unkMAV incentives and the most Keys for The Unlock Games Community Ownership program.
In this case, you can vote on Maverick regular voting or delegate the votes to whatever address you choose. When voting yourself or delegating your votes, you will receive voting incentives as per your or Unlock’s voting strategy.
An important aspect of liquid staking is liquidity - users can stake their tokens to earn fees and rewards by staking into Maverick Boosted Positions.

zkSync Era (unkMAV-MAV) Boosted Position
unkMAV, which is not staked on Unlock, delegates voting power automatically to direct votes to unkMAV liquidity pools as well as other strategies on Maverick. These unstaked unkMAV tokens can be staked into boosted liquidity pools on Maverick to collect swap fees, unkMAV incentives and Keys.
Every action on Unlock is rewarded with Keys, a pre-token required for Community Ownership via retroactive airdrop of UNK, Unlock’s Governance Token. Anyone can mint and design their NFT from the app to collect Keys, NFT’s also provide a multiplier to any Keys generated from staking deposits in unkMAV or in boosted positions for unkMAV.
