Aloha, welcome to Uqbar’s weekly rollup. Every Monday we’ll provide you with exciting updates on everything Uqbar: dev reports, media mentions, and general happenings around the Urbit ecosystem.
The Assembly 2022 schedule has been released and Uqbar is the star of the show. Sunday will feature not one, but two Uqbar presentations. At noon, Director of Technical Outreach ~hocwyn-tipwex will present on the Galaxy Stage with a BIG ANNOUNCEMENT. Then, at 3:15 on the Universe Stage, Lead Developer ~hodzod-walrus will demonstrate on how to write smart contracts in Hoon. If you haven’t gotten your tickets, now is your last chance!
Here’s some “cool information”: Uqbar’s hit show, The Network Age, was recently named Apple’s number 2 business podcast in the exalted Republic of Malta.

In this week’s episode, ~bichul-ritsen, ~timluc-miptev, and ~nilrun-mardux dive into the headlines, dissecting SEC regulation, Coinbase lawsuits, and the death of Queen Liz, before laying out their vision for digital cities. Make sure you have your talking points ready for your next visit to the Mediterranean.
Chorus One, blockchain infrastructure heroes in their own right, published part two of their deep dive on Urbit, highlighting our role in the greater Web3 ecosystem and calling Uqbar a “gem among gems.” Suffice it to say, we agree. Thanks ~dosnul-sogteg!
It was a star turn from our fearless leader ~timluc-miptev on the latest episode of Other Life, the popular podcast from social scientist Justin Murphy (~hatryx-lastud). While ~timluc did an excellent job explaining why he is “insanely bullish on Urbit,” he left us with more questions than answers about his airpod use and choice of shirt.

~tanpen-ridlyt is working on a grant to bring yet another podcast to the Urbitsphere. While we at Uqbar already have the market cornered, internal discussion revealed that we actually like people who talk about Urbit, so we’re on board. ~tanpen-ridlyt’s proposed show, Applied Urbit, addresses “what people can actually do and make here with those apps.” In essence, he’ll be doing a series of one-on-ones with developers and builders in the burgeoning app ecosystem. Find out more at: ~tanpen-ridlyt/applied-urbit
The Mars Review of Books will be back for issue #2 at Assembly. Editor-in-Chief ~librex-dozryc (another vaunted Assembly speaker) has generously teased the cover, designed by the multi-talented ~mallus-fabres. This new issue features several respected Urbiters, including Uqbar’s own ~habsul-rignyr, who apparently has no reservations about abusing his position to self-promote in the Weekly Rollup. Find out more about the Mars Review on Urbit at ~bidbel/a and pre-order a copy at store.marsreview.org.

Another busy week for the Uqbar team—check out some of their accomplishments:
~hodzod-walrus:
Performance tests and final bug fixes in advance of unveiling testnet at Assembly!
Completed documentation and tutorials for writing Uqbar smart contracts
Fixed small bugs in wallet app
~fabnev-hinmur:
Rebuilt Uqbar block explorer interface to support the latest release of Ziggurat development suite
~timfyn-ranpyl:
Ported many of the treap jets from set to map, started a zere rewrite to deduplicate nouns and memoize nock execution
A great Twitter thread on the devilish convenience of centralization from @TheCombineDao (~poldec-tonteg)
And another excellent thread from Uqbar Lead Developer ~hodzod-walrus on the surprising relationship between privacy and convenience
A few of this week’s best threads from Uqbar founder, @basileSportif
Basile uses the merge to reflect on his past mistakes in cryptoland and elsewhere
Basile’s describes his Mental Model for Industry in relationship to geopolitics and macroeconomics
